Sam Wasson, the book\u2019s writer, is a good friend of mine and I\u2019m very happy for him. You are nothing like her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts noted that while it\u2019s a \u201ctall order to fill,\u201d the key to Collins nailing the role lies in her performance and whether she can embody the essence of the Oscar winner.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Charlie Keil, Cinema Studies Institute, University of Toronto, says taking on a role like this \u201ccan be a field full of landmines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a contemporary star takes on the role of an iconic figure from the past, they may be judged by many different standards. If that figure is someone like Audrey Hepburn, who has been immortalized on screen in numerous famous roles, it is a much greater challenge,\u201d Keil said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Lily Collins has been open about her admiration for Audrey Hepburn over the years. She is fondly remembered by her many fans as svelte and almost aristocratic, but also a bit coltish and beguilingly insecure at times,\u201d adding that \u201cthis is a tall order to fill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keil said fans \u201cdon\u2019t necessarily want a carbon copy\u201d of Hepburn, but rather, \u201cthey are looking for a new way to think about a familiar star and the performance should give them that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Keil gave Natalie Portman\u2019s portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in the film \u201cJackie\u201d as an example, and how she gave \u201ca particular purchase on the former first lady, and not a comprehensive imitation of every known aspect of a famous person\u2019s persona.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t imitate \u2014 differentiate. Show, as an actress, that you are exercising some control in how you are conceiving of the re-imagining of a legend. The vocal and physical manifestations of the characters must become second nature.
