\n\tSean Penn<\/a> appeared on \u201cThe Louis Theroux Podcast\u201d<\/a> and declared Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> to be \u201cprobably the last movie star.\u201d Penn and the eponymous podcast host were discussing an array of different celebrities, with the Oscar winner giving his opinion on each. <\/p>\n \n\t \u201cI think the movie star manufacturer ran out around Jennifer Lawrence time or something,\u201d Penn said about movie stardom. \u201cShe\u2019s probably the last movie star.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tOne undisputed movie star in Penn\u2019s mind is Tom Cruise, who is back in theaters this month with \u201cMission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning.\u201d Penn praised the A-lister as \u201ca guy who pursues excellence on a very high level.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cCertain kind of movies people appreciate more than others\u2026 but this is a very good actor who is also an incredibly extraordinary craftsman,\u201d Penn said about Cruise. \u201cThose movies don\u2019t get made on those level without somebody extraordinary behind them. He\u2019s the common link behind many of them. It\u2019s no accident. He does his own stunts. He\u2019s probably the best stuntman in movie world. He\u2019s the most experienced guy.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhen Penn noted later that \u201cI see some performances from some young actors where I feel like I should quit and become an accountant because they are so good,\u201d Theroux wondered who the actor might be talking about. Perhaps Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>?<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI haven\u2019t seen that movie yet,\u201d Penn said, referring to Chalamet\u2019s Oscar-nominated turn as Bob Dylan in last year\u2019s \u201cA Complete Unknown.\u201d The actor added: \u201cI haven\u2019t seen his movies yet.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBut Penn has clearly seen Jennifer Lawrence movies, thus naming her \u201cprobably the last movie star.\u201d Both Lawrence and Cruise will be attending the Cannes Film Festival this year with new movies. Cruise is bringing the latest \u201cMission: Impossible\u201d sequel, which is being billed as his final outing as Ethan Hunt, while Lawrence teams with director Lynne Ramsay and co-star Robert Pattinson on the psychological drama \u201cDie My Love.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tWhether or not movie stars still exist in Hollywood remains an ongoing topic of debate among talent. Some A-list directors like Quentin Tarantino\u00a0have claimed<\/a>\u00a0that the rise of Marvel has contributed to the death of the movie star, as actors like Chris Evans are more associated with their superhero characters than they are as movie stars. Actors like Harrison Ford disagree. He was asked about the death of Hollywood movie stars by GQ magazine<\/a> last year and responded: \u201cOh, I think it\u2019s rubbish.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI don\u2019t think the question is whether or not there are any movie stars. There\u2019s wonderful actors coming up every day,\u201d Ford said at the time.\u00a0\u201cWhether or not they become movie stars is really not the point. If movies need stars, they will find them. I\u2019ve never fucking understood being a movie star. I\u2019m an actor. I tell stories. I\u2019m part of a group of people who work together, collaborate on telling stories.
