Everyone has returned from the holidays, and the industrial building has morphed into a busy command center: In one area, six men are building a <em>S\u00e1bado Gigante<\/em>-inspired set for an upcoming video shoot; in a smaller conference room, label managers are scarfing down meals from El Pollo Loco between meetings. One section is packed with luxury cars: There are several Rolls-Royces, a 2021 Lamborghini SVJ, a Chevy Camaro SS, an old-school Chevy 454 SS. They all belong to Jes\u00fas Ort\u00edz Paz, the frontman of the m\u00fasica mexicana band <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/fuerza-regida\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fuerza-regida\" data-tag=\"fuerza-regida\">Fuerza Regida<\/a> and the founder of Street Mob Records \u2014\u00a0and he just walked through the door.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAs soon as Paz, better known as JOP, swaggers into the building, the members of Fuerza Regida take their seats around a boardroom table like Power Rangers gathering before a mission. We\u2019re only days into the new year, but they have a wildly ambitious agenda: deliver an innovative 11th album, expand Street Mob Records, and sell out a summer stadium tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:788px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  lrv-u-border-a-2\">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((1024\/788)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p><\/div><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-flex lrv-u-flex-direction-column lrv-u-align-items-center\">\n<\/figcaption><span class=\"lrv-a-font-body-xs lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-font-style-normal lrv-u-text-align-center lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-padding-t-037\">Clothing provided by Vetements, 424, and Campillo. He\u2019s cocksure, charming, and the band\u2019s center of gravity. Even with a lingering cold, he does most of the talking, pausing only to reach for some tissues. To his right sits Mois\u00e9s L\u00f3pez, the <em>tololoche<\/em> player \u2014 the youngest, newest, and, even the band will admit, the cutest member. Next to him is guitarist Khrystian Ramos, focused and business-minded, balancing band duties with outside ventures that include a successful seafood business. Then there\u2019s Samuel J\u00e1imez, the quiet homebody who warns me that he\u2019s bad at answering questions. And finally, Jos\u00e9 \u201cPel\u00f3n\u201d Garc\u00eda, the sousaphone and tuba player \u2014 the goofball who is quick with a joke and gets along with everyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the decade since forming, Fuerza Regida have pushed their corridos from backyard carnes asadas to arena stages, becoming the vanguard of a wave of m\u00fasica mexicana acts that have redefined the genre\u2019s look, sound, and commercial ceiling in the streaming era. They fuse traditional acoustic instrumentation with hip-hop swagger and internet-age marketing. In doing so, they\u2019ve turned a once-traditional sound into a generational movement made by and for young Mexican Americans raised between cultures, and fluent in both.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cYes, we\u2019re trendsetters,\u201d JOP says. \u201cI\u2019m not going to say we do everything first. Sometimes other people will do it first. They joke about the trek from \u201cthe city,\u201d and one of their managers recommends a taco truck down the road, where all the boys ate a few weeks before. The guys\u2019 families are here, too \u2014 close enough to drop by.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt one point during the conversation, JOP\u2019s phone rings. It\u2019s his mom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201c\u00bf<em>Quieres el caldito o tambi\u00e9n salsita<\/em>?\u201d she asks on speaker: Do you want just the chicken soup or the salsa, too?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJOP might be one of the biggest stars in Mexican music, but he\u2019s still her son, and he\u2019s sick, after all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cSend me it all,\u201d JOP says, instructing one of his guys to go pick the food up. \u201cChile, avocado. I\u2019ll call you later. I\u2019m in a meeting. <em>La quiero mucho<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI love you too,\u201d she replies. Like many of their fans, each member was born to immigrant parents who settled in Southern California chasing something better. J\u00e1imez worked at a car wash. JOP cut hair as a barber. Garc\u00eda grew up on a ranch. L\u00f3pez was an LA Galaxy ball boy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThey still remember their early days, staying in shitty motels before gigs and eating McDonald\u2019s. Their tour bus was so janky at that time it didn\u2019t have AC. \u201cWe would put our heads in the ice chest,\u201d laughs J\u00e1imez. \u201cWe would take turns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cAnd it fucking stank, bro. They fucking didn\u2019t shower,\u201d adds JOP, referring to his bandmates. \u201cWe shared the bus on the fucking 20 hours to Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBack then, touring on a busted bus was the dream. \u201cThe opportunity of a lifetime,\u201d JOP calls it. \u201cFucking sleeping in a hotel in a \u00addifferent state was already doing it, even though we were fucking getting paid $1,800 a show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThese days, their reality looks much different. At one point, one of the band\u2019s homies pulls up to headquarters in a brand-new Ferrari Purosangue, the carmaker\u2019s only SUV. JOP takes it for a speed drive down the street. \u201cYeah, I think I\u2019m going to buy that one,\u201d he says, like it\u2019s a sandwich at a deli. The sticker price is almost half a million dollars. It\u2019ll be one more piece of an ever-growing empire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tABOUT AN HOUR into our conversation, JOP slaps a small vial onto the conference table. \u201cYou can put that in there, bro,\u201d he tells me, pointing to my recorder. JOP loves peptides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tToday, he\u2019s taking Thymosin alpha-1, which is meant to boost his immune system and help his body fight off the cold he has. He already did a vitamin IV drip yesterday, but these are supposed to help, too, he says. He talks about how he takes NADs, a coenzyme used for cellular regeneration and anti-aging, and how he and the boys have been tracking their macros, cutting out sugar from their diets, and exercising regularly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJOP grabs his peptide syringe, holding it up to the light to make sure he\u2019s taking in the right amount. \u201cPeptides is a new future,\u201d JOP says matter-of-factly. \u201cAll this, your body makes it. This is just synthetically made. It\u2019s like a lab diamond\u2026. The Fuerza genesis story started with just the two guitarists, Ramos and J\u00e1imez, who met in 2013 at a martial-arts gym (Ramos\u2019 cousin would step in on vocals). They had a tiny repertoire: the birthday song \u201cLas Ma\u00f1anitas,\u201d Ariel Camacho\u2019s \u201cA Cada Rato,\u201d and maybe two other corridos they knew how to play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt the time, JOP had just left another band. Through a mutual friend, he heard Ramos and J\u00e1imez were looking for a bass player. He came to a practice and was offered a spot almost immediately. Before long, he assumed the role of lead vocalist while still playing bass, juggling both roles at once.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThey had been calling themselves Grupo Raimez, a mashup of Ramos\u2019 and J\u00e1imez\u2019s last names. \u201cWhen it got serious, after a couple gigs of us charging 60 bucks an hour, I told them, \u2018Hey, we should change the name, because I don\u2019t feel like it\u2019s part of my shit,\u2019\u201d JOP remembers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:787px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  lrv-u-border-a-2\">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((1024\/787)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-rollingstone-2022\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SHOT_02_01502_FNL_0216X300.jpg?w=787\" alt=\"\" data-lazy-srcset=\"\" data-lazy-sizes=\"\" height=\"1024\" width=\"787\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p><\/div><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-flex lrv-u-flex-direction-column lrv-u-align-items-center\">\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe conversation marked a shift \u2014 less hobby, more real. Eventually, they changed their name to Fuerza Regida. Put together, Fuerza Regida loosely translates to something like \u201cthe force that rules.\u201d The band also liked that it was different from the many m\u00fasica mexicana acts that start with the word \u201cgrupo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOne of Fuerza\u2019s first gigs as a three-piece \u2014 and the one where they met Garc\u00eda \u2014 was almost ruined because of a breakup. Ramos had gotten dumped over text, and while at a house party, he decided to leave minutes before their performance to see if he could catch his ex with another guy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI got really hot because this fool just left our first jam ever,\u201d JOP says, laughing. \u201cI was talking shit the whole way back. Remember?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBy then, Fuerza had started gaining buzz locally after recording a cover of a lesser-known corrido called \u201cUno Personal.\u201d The laid-back song is a celebration of the simple things: wanting a well-rolled joint, a cold six-pack, and not caring what anyone else thinks. In the 909, it quickly caught fire. They posted it to YouTube in 2017, and they say the video surpassed 100,000 views in less than a month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cFor us, that was crazy. Everybody in the IE knew about us already,\u201d says JOP. \u201cThey didn\u2019t know who the fuck it was, but they heard the song.\u201d As the band started to gain more recognition locally, Ramos and JOP got temporary warehouse jobs to supplement their income. Garc\u00eda was working construction with \u201cbenefits and everything,\u201d and once the band started to tour, he was faced with leaving his old job or leaving the band.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI had a kid already and a kid on the way. I got hit out of nowhere, bro,\u201d recalls Garc\u00eda. \u201cImagine fucking making $2,500 a week in construction. We\u2019re probably going to be like the Beatles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- disable-pmc_link_tags_to_related_posts-ends --><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe group broke through on a national level in 2018 with \u201cRadicamos en South Central,\u201d a corrido detailing the hustle of a Los Angeles dealer. The song\u2019s success led them to a recording contract. The band signed a dual deal with Lumbre Music, an indie founded by the band Legado 7, and Rancho Humilde, the pioneering label led by Mexican music entrepreneur Jimmy Humilde. Smaller acts like Los Alegres del Barranco, Arsenal Efectivo, and Alta Consigna were already generating buzz in Mexican music. But with Fuerza Regida in the ranks, Rancho Humilde quickly became one of the defining labels of the movement, touting other heavy hitters who joined the roster, like Herencia de Patrones, Natanael Cano, and Junior H.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe group looks back at the signing with conflicting feelings. Fuerza Regida and Rancho Humilde are currently in a legal battle involving allegations of withheld royalties and financial mismanagement. (Rancho first sued the band for breach of contract.) JOP avoids going into specifics but emphasizes that artists should go into record deals with a manager and a lawyer. \u201cThat\u2019s a big thing I can\u2019t really talk about because I\u2019ve got an ongoing lawsuit,\u201d he says. \u201cAt the end of the day, whoever\u2019s in the right,<em> les va a ir bien<\/em> [will prevail]. But as their music\u2019s reach expanded, so did the ways they leaned more into the rap culture of Southern California that raised them. Today, the band moves in diamond-studded designer wear. JOP is often seated in the front row at Paris Fashion Week, and he even performed a corrido at a recent KidSuper runway show. Travel by private jet is the new normal \u2014 so much that their pilot once reached out to me to write a story about him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt one point during the interview, the conversation swerves into a five-minute debate about hair. The Fuerza Regida guys have been growing theirs out. They roast each other over who\u2019s actually committed to the look and who\u2019s secretly trimming the sides. \u201cLong hair, facial hair, fucking rock-star shit,\u201d JOP explains. \u201cWe\u2019re probably going to be like the Beatles.\u201d (The reference isn\u2019t new \u2014 back in 2019, they re-created the <em>Abbey Road <\/em>cover, crossing a street in San Bernardino for the cover of <em>Del Barrio Hasta Aqu\u00ed<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe band\u2019s image changes have also included the addition of a member: Mois\u00e9s L\u00f3pez, the group\u2019s youngest member by several years. He officially joined the band when Fuerza released the pair of <em>Pa Que Hablen <\/em>albums at the end of 2022, and has since become a central presence for the band.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThere\u2019s a video of L\u00f3pez at about 14, jamming along with Fuerza at a sushi spot. \u201cHe was a little kid, bro,\u201d Ramos says after L\u00f3pez finds the video in his Snapchat memories. First, he joined the group\u2019s backing band to play bass on \u201cVamos Bien,\u201d from 2020\u2019s <em>Otro Pedo, Otro Mundo.<\/em> But he needed to learn tololoche, the upright-bass-like instrument central to many Fuerza songs. Little by little, L\u00f3pez started to get noticed by fans. \u201cI didn\u2019t believe it. \u2018I\u2019m in Fuerza Regida, <em>g\u00fcey.<\/em> Like, fuck,\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cI was filled with emotion.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote larva \/\/ lrv-a-font-theme-primary lrv-u-border-b-2 lrv-u-border-t-2 lrv-u-margin-a-00 lrv-u-text-align-center u-font-size-60 u-line-height-56 u-padding-b-175 u-padding-t-175 u-padding-lr-2@tablet lrv-a-font-secondary-xxl   \"><p>\n\t<!-- disable-pmc_link_tags_to_related_posts-starts --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to be remembered as the best,\u201d JOP says. \u201cNot just by Mexicans. But over time, he\u2019s become like a \u201cmini JOP\u201d \u2014 listening to arrangements and demo pitches, often narrowing down what reaches the frontman. \u201cI know what he likes,\u201d L\u00f3pez says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cAdding this dude, we knew we were going to get more young girls to be our fans,\u201d JOP says bluntly. \u201cImagine, this foo [Ramos] was losing weight a little bit, but you see my boys over here? We were all fat and getting older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cNow, he\u2019s the one with all the motion! All the <em>morritas,<\/em>\u201d Garc\u00eda jokes. <em>All the girls<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIN FEBRUARY, JUST BEFORE Valentine\u2019s Day, Fuerza Regida officially announce the This Is Our Dream Tour. To celebrate, the guys have all upgraded their wheels and are posting videos on Instagram, showing Street Mob headquarters looking more like a luxury dealership. In one photo, J\u00e1imez pulls up in a white Rolls-Royce Cullinan. \u201cShout out to the ones who dragged me out that carwash,\u201d he captioned an Instagram post. \u201cLife is good.\u201d L\u00f3pez steps out of a Ferrari 488, a gift that coincides with his 22nd birthday. Garc\u00eda parks his Batmobile-like Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n, while Ramos sports his new Lamborghini Urus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThey\u2019re excited to get back on the road \u2014 and also to kick-start their biggest live effort yet. Their label, Street Mob, took off during the pandemic, when touring stalled. JOP launched it with COO Cristian \u201cToro\u201d Primera and CFO Luis L\u00f3pez, and what began as a makeshift operation out of someone\u2019s house has since grown into a full-fledged enterprise: 18 artists, more than 30 songwriters \u2014 many of whom compose for Fuerza \u2014 and dozens of employees working out of their sprawling warehouse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cSince I\u2019m an artist, I try to see the best for the artists,\u201d JOP says. \u201cSometimes my own team tells me I\u2019m too nice because I put myself in the artist\u2019s shoes.\u2026 The thing I\u2019m fixing is making sure they see everything. Street Mob also hosts Don\u2019t Fall in Love Fest in San Bernardino, which has included lineups that blend heavy-hitting Mexican acts like Banda MS and Los Tucanes de Tijuana and rap stars like Future and Lil Baby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cOur culture is about putting our own kind on,\u201d says Primera. \u201cStreet Mob is a platform where people can come with their dream.\u2026 It\u2019s a family-oriented independent record label.\u2026 We know what it\u2019s like to build an artist from the ground up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLong before his COO title, Primera did whatever Fuerza needed: He was an assistant, equipment manager, driver. He\u2019d haul the guys from gig to gig, his paycheck ranged from maybe $150 to $200 a show \u2014 \u201c<em>si me iba bien<\/em>,\u201d he says \u2014 if the night went well. But he stayed. \u201cLoyalty got me here. Loyalty and believing in his dreams, more than anything,\u201d he says, referring to JOP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tStreet Mob has also allowed the band to extend its philanthropic arm, offering a hand to survivors of the fires that affected the L.A. area in early 2025 and victims of ICE raids last summer. The band donated funds to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center to help cover legal fees for individuals. The talk sparks a thought in JOP\u2019s head: \u201cImagine if I run for president when I\u2019m 38. Right now, it\u2019s 30 percent Hispanic [in the U.S.]. Imagine in 10 years?\u201d he says. \u201cYou usually start as a mayor somewhere. That\u2019s not what I\u2019m on right now, but I\u2019ve thought about it before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s hard not to touch on these issues in a genre that has become increasingly politicized. M\u00fasica mexicana acts have faced intense criticism for singing about narcoculture, and that storytelling remains part of Fuerza\u2019s early discography. Some of their biggest hits include narcocorridos like \u201cCH y la Pizza\u201d (with Natanael Cano) and \u201cIgualito a Mi Ap\u00e1\u201d (with Peso Pluma), songs from 2022 that reference Los Chapitos, the successors to El Chapo Guzm\u00e1n. Narcocorridos aren\u2019t new, but the scrutiny around them has intensified. Last year, the U.S. government revoked the visas of Mexican band Los Alegres del Barranco after they performed a song referencing \u201cEl Mencho,\u201d the leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generaci\u00f3n who was killed in February in a military operation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFuerza doesn\u2019t face visa issues since all of its members are U.S. citizens, but they have encountered cartel controversy. In October 2023, a handwritten narcomanta was discovered on a bridge in Tijuana, explicitly warning the group that its upcoming show at Estadio Caliente would be its last. The show was canceled out of caution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut while the controversy has reignited debates about whether corridos glorify crime, JOP defends the tradition. \u201cIt\u2019s just a story,\u201d he says. He points to a seeming double standard in other forms of media \u2014 films that portray violence in Afghanistan, for example. \u201cWhy don\u2019t they talk shit on that? Everyone loves that, right? Why can\u2019t they love the music? It\u2019s the same thing. They don\u2019t like Mexicans,\u201d JOP says. \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019ve heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFuerza moved away from corridos on newer albums, and their bigger goal is to mature their sound. In fact, they\u2019re finding new ways to level up. Just recently, JOP and L\u00f3pez were in the studio until sunrise, chasing a song that might make the next record. \u201cIt\u2019s innovative. <em>Elevated <\/em>music,\u201d JOP says. He\u2019s used that word before, and each time, it has meant something different: bigger risks (like the \u201cjersey corrido\u201d on <em>Pero No Te Enamores<\/em>) and new instruments, like the banjo featured across <em>111xpantia<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy lrv-a-floated-parent  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the coming weeks, the band will listen to the new songs, scoring them from 1 to 10 to decide what makes the album. \u201cAnd at the end, I override some songs,\u201d JOP says with a laugh. Last time, several people gave low ratings to the song \u201cTu Sancho\u201d; JOP overruled them and kept it.
