Cro-Mags<\/a><\/strong> have been recording their seventh album in the studio, as per Lambgoat<\/a>. The seasoned hardcore band, who signed with BLKIIBLK earlier this year, are working on 11 new songs and seem to have hired more musicians for the sessions. According to video released by Harley Flanagan on Saturday, March 07, drummer Greyson Nekrutman (Sepultura<\/strong>, ex-Suicidal Tendencies<\/strong>) and producer Arthur Rizk (Soulfly<\/strong>, Integrity<\/strong>) appear to be engaged.<\/p>\n

The original members of the band disagree about how the Cro-Mags<\/strong> came to be. Guitarist Parris Mayhew claims in Tony Rettman\u2019s 2014 book NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980\u20131990 that the band came together after Flanagan responded to several posters he had placed up around New York looking for band members. According to other members of the New York hardcore movement in the same book, the band was formerly called Mode of Ignorance<\/strong> and had Dave Hahn on drums, Mayhew and Dave Stein on guitar, John Joseph on lead vocals, and Flanagan on bass. The band\u2019s lineup changed frequently in its early years.<\/p>\n

Eric Casanova took Joseph\u2019s position after he left the group shortly after to reside in Puerto Rico and later Hawaii. Flanagan on drums, Mayhew on guitar, Todd Youth on bass, and Casanova on vocals made formed one Cro-Mags<\/strong> lineup during this era. Roger Miret had taken Youth\u2019s position by the time the band performed live for the first time. Due to schedule conflicts caused by the birth of his son, Casanova was soon expelled from the band. By this point, Joseph had moved back to New York and was singing with the group again. Following Miret\u2019s exit, Youth briefly returned to the group, and Robb \u201cNunzio\u201d Ortiz also joined as a guitarist. The group renamed itself the Cro-Mags<\/strong> a few months later.\n<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
