Doja Cat<\/a> is disputing Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>\u2019s viral comment that \u201cno one cares\u201d about ballet and opera anymore. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In an apparently <\/span>since-deleted TikTok<\/span><\/a>, the 30-year-old rapper challenged the Oscar-nominated star over the controversial remarks<\/a> he made while attending a celebrity.land and Variety town hall event in Austin, Texas, alongside Matthew McConaughey last month. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n During the event, the \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d actor <\/span>told McConaughey<\/span><\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Chalamet appeared to instantly realize his comment could be perceived as insulting, adding, \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there. Damn, I just took shots for no reason.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n After the actor\u2019s comments resurfaced online this week, Doja Cat addressed him in a video clip. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cOpera is 400 years old. Ballet is 500 years old,\u201d she began before calling out Chalamet directly, mispronouncing his name, perhaps on purpose. \u201cSomebody named Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, big guy, by the way, had the nerve to say on camera that nobody cares about it.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Arguing that Chalamet could \u201cwalk into an opera theater right now [and] seats will be filled out,\u201d she continued, \u201cand nobody\u2019s saying a word as the performance is going because everybody has that much respect for it.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThere is an etiquette around opera. There is etiquette around ballet. It\u2019s amazing. It\u2019s an amazing theater medium. It\u2019s fucking beautiful,\u201d Doja Cat declared. \u201cPeople go there every day to the dance studio. Dancers show up 8 a.m., 6 a.m., whatever the fuck, they show up, and they break and they bleed every single day, just because they have respect for it. They love it, they love what they do.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Noting that \u201cit doesn\u2019t matter if the industry is having a tough time,\u201d the musician (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini) contended that \u201ca lot of industries [are having] a tough time.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYour industry has a tough time. My industry has a tough time. Doesn\u2019t mean people don\u2019t care about it. People care. Dancers care. The singers care,\u201d she added. \u201cThe audience cares. There\u2019s still an audience. People give a fuck. You show up in a nice outfit, you sit the fuck down, and you shut the fuck up. That\u2019s the usual etiquette around those things.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Wrapping up her message to the actor, she added that he should \u201cmaybe learn something from that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Reps for Chalamet didn\u2019t immediately respond to celebrity.land\u2019s request for comment. The \u201cDune\u201d leading man has not yet publicly responded to Doja Cat\u2019s comments. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Doja Cat isn\u2019t the only celebrity who has taken issue with Chalamet\u2019s viral diss. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Chalamet was torched on \u201cThe View,\u201d<\/a> with co-host Sunny Hostin revealing she was \u201coffended\u201d and \u201cdisappointed\u201d by his comments as a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, a Black classical ballet troupe. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t realize that he was that vapid and that shallow,\u201d she said of the 30-year-old actor. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Co-host Whoopi Goldberg slammed Chalamet for criticizing the arts while pointing out that he comes from a \u201cdance family.\u201d The American-French actor\u2019s mother (Nicole Flender), grandmother (Enid Flender), and sister (Pauline Chalamet) have all danced with the New York City Ballet. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhen you crap on somebody else\u2019s art form, it doesn\u2019t feel good,\u201d Goldberg added. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel good to see, and you probably didn\u2019t realize that until you said, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m in trouble\u2019 \u2026 So be careful. I\u2019m just saying, be careful, boy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n After reiterating that Chalamet\u2019s family has a strong dance background, co-host Sarah Haines joked that \u201cthis seems like a family issue.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Multiple ballet and opera companies have also rebuked Chalamet\u2019s dig. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Los Angeles Opera wrote on Instagram<\/a>, \u201cSorry, @tchalamet. We\u2019d offer you complimentary tickets to Akhnaten, but it\u2019s selling out. There are a few seats left to purchase if you hurry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n London\u2019s Royal Ballet and Opera said in an Instagram post,<\/a> \u201cEvery night at the Royal Opera House, thousands of people gather for ballet and opera. For the music. For the storytelling. For the sheer magic of live performance.
