The Blind Auditions<\/a> for Season 29 of\u00a0The Voice<\/a><\/em> came to an end during the Monday, March 9, episode. John Legend<\/a>, Kelly Clarkson<\/a>, and Adam Levine<\/a> filled out their teams of 10 ahead of next week\u2019s Battle Rounds.<\/p>\n

That also meant that the winner of the Triple Turn competition<\/a> was revealed, giving the coach with the most three-chair Blind Audition turns an advantage in the Battle Rounds. Heading into Night 3 of the Blind Auditions, Legend had one Triple Turn, Levine had three, and Clarkson had two.<\/p>\n

KJ Willis<\/h2>\n

Kicking off the third and final night of Blind Auditions was KJ Willis with a rendition of \u201cRoni\u201d by Bobby Brown<\/a>. Legend turned around fairly quickly, with Clarkson later following.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019mma coach you right off the bat,\u201d Clarkson said. \u201cYou cannot teach someone to be that passionate and comfortable on stage. You have such a gift. I would suggest holding back just a little bit and hold those spots because if you\u2019re doing it the whole time, people can lose sight of how special it is. If you choose me, which I hope you do, I would suggest picking those moments to shine.\u201d She also praised KJ for his \u201cincredible\u201d range.<\/p>\n

Legend said that KJ\u2019s tone is \u201cimpeccable\u201d and raved over the \u201ctexture and soul\u201d in his \u201cbeautiful\u201d voice. He also pitched the fact that he grew up singing in church like KJ, then Legend and Clarkson argued over how they both have history with Babyface<\/a>, whom KJ had performed with in the past.<\/p>\n

In the end, it was Legend who won the fight, adding KJ to his team.<\/p>\n

Houston Kelly<\/h2>\n

Houston Kelly came to his audition with a performance of \u201cWalking in Memphis,\u201d a song his late grandfather loved. He showed off his blues and country influence in the rendition.<\/p>\n

At the absolute last second, Clarkson pushed her button to turn her chair, automatically winning Houston to her team since neither of the other coaches turned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never waited that long!\u201d she admitted. \u201cI literally was thinking, well, I already have country. But I don\u2019t have anyone that sounds like this. You\u2019re so talented.\u201d She also added, \u201cYou\u2019re just such a great solid country singer and I love that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashley Marina<\/h2>\n

Ashley Marina, a singer\/songwriter who was previously on America\u2019s Got Talent<\/a><\/em> and cut in the second round, is now six years older and ready to try again on\u00a0The Voice<\/em>. For her Blind Audition, she sang \u201cTonight I Wanna Cry\u201d by Keith Urban<\/a>. Just moments into the performance, all three coaches<\/a> pushed their buttons.<\/p>\n

Clarkson noted that Ashley got \u201cpitchy after we turned around,\u201d but pointed out that it could\u2019ve just been because of nerves. \u201cIt happens a lot,\u201d Clarkson assured her. \u201cThis is the stage to get used to that. I think you have a really killer voice and I\u2019d love to help you tackle those nerves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Levine agreed with Clarkson, but also had words of encouragement for Ashley. \u201cWhat\u2019s really nice is when you have a moment listening to you, you absolutely know it\u2019s really special,\u201d he said. \u201cYou tackling those nerves and getting past that, it\u2019s literally the formula to doing well on this show.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was Legend who won Ashley over, though, when he said, \u201cWe heard your tone, we heard the way you jump into different parts of your voice, it was really beautiful and really tasteful. The fact that you\u2019re doing all that at the age of 18 is really impressive.\u201d When Ashley picked him, it gave Legend his second Triple Turn of the competition.<\/p>\n

Aziz Guerra<\/h2>\n

Aziz Guerra came to the United States from Mexico when he was eight and began performing. Now a student at the Berklee College of Music, Aziz performs in a mariachi band and musical theater group. He sang \u201cEl Triste,\u201d a song in Spanish, for his Blind Audition.<\/p>\n

The performance earned him a chair turn from Levine, and since he was the only one who pushed his button, he automatically landed Aziz on his team.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou kept being more impressive as the song went on. And then your falsetto, that was so cool, man,\u201d Clarkson told Aziz. Legend called it a \u201cbeautiful performance\u201d and praised his \u201creally beautiful range\u201d and \u201cability to go between your head voice and chest voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Levine admitted he had to \u201ctake a beat\u201d before turning around because he wanted to make sure he liked the performance for more than just the fact that it was in another language. \u201cYou have a lot of power and the way you delivered some of those lines toward the end, I was super happy!\u201d he raved.<\/p>\n

Mariette Gevorgian<\/h2>\n

Next to take the stage was Mariette Gevorgian, who is just 15. She sang Demi Lovato<\/a>\u2018s \u201cAnyone\u201d for her Blind Audition. However, none of the coaches turned around.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe great thing about being 15 years old and doing this is you\u2019re not running out of time,\u201d Levine assured her, and Clarkson added, \u201cYou have such a beautiful gift. I think today was timing. My team is almost full, but I would have turned for you, so please come back!\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason Farol<\/h2>\n

After his performance of SZA\u2019s \u201cSaturn,\u201d Jason Farol also wasn\u2019t able to convince any of the judges to push their buttons. However, Clarkson immediately recognized Jason, and he revealed that he was on the show\u00a0Duets<\/em> with her in 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just felt like you were having a little control issues with pitch and things of that nature,\u201d Legend admitted, and Clarkson said, \u201cYou know I love your voice. I am so sorry. That would\u2019ve been so cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mikenley Brown<\/h2>\n

Mikenley Brown came to The Voice<\/em> with a very unique rendition of Katy Perry<\/a>\u2018s \u201cTeenage Dream,\u201d which she started out slow and added her raspy flair to. Legend and Levine turned around back-to-back, and Clarkson eventually followed, making this a Triple Turn.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t even recognize the song at first because you put your own thing on it,\u201d Levine said. \u201cYou\u2019re tasteful, you have an ethereal quality to what you do. \u2026 Just to see you in your element, eyes closed, standing there stoically singing, is the kind of purity that I love the most.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson praised Mikenley\u2019s tone. \u201cI\u2019m a big fan. I have navigated a competition at your age. I\u2019ve also won this, if you want to take a look up there, more than these boys,\u201d she laughed. \u201cI know how to win a show and I have no one on my team in your lane.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, it was Legend\u2019s turn to weigh in. \u201cThat was so cool. I was the first one to turn for you, you might have noticed that,\u201d he pointed out. \u201cI think you\u2019re cool. I would love to work with you. I think I would be a great coach for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, it was Mikenley who had to make the decision, and she chose Clarkson. With that, Clarkson earned her third Triple Turn and completed her team.<\/p>\n

Grace Humphries<\/h2>\n

Grace Humphries used music to process the loss of her brother, who died from brain cancer ahead of his 10th birthday 10 years ago. She came to\u00a0The Voice<\/em> with a performance of \u201cBoth Sides Now\u201d by Joni Mitchell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Legend turned around almost right away, and since Levine didn\u2019t push his button, Grace automatically landed on Team Legend.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just love your voice and your spirit,\u201d Legend said. \u201cI heard your voice and your tone and the way you kind of embraced the stage. I want you on my team. I feel like you got a little shaky once I pushed the button, which happens, but I\u2019m so excited to work with you. You have such a beautiful voice, a beautiful stage presence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Levine admitted he didn\u2019t turn around because he heard some \u201cpitch issues,\u201d but assured Grace that Legend will help her work that all out.<\/p>\n

Natasha Blaine<\/h2>\n

Natasha Blaine, who works part-time in a sauna studio, auditioned for\u00a0The Voice<\/em> with the hopes of pursuing music full-time. Her performance of \u201cKiss of Life\u201d by Sade earned a chair turn from Legend.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour tone is so beautiful. You approached the song with a lot of style and I really liked your performance. I get you all to myself!\u201d Natasha\u2019s new coach raved.<\/p>\n

Drew Russell<\/h2>\n

Drew Russell grew up around music since her dad was a member of the a cappella group Take 6. For her Blind Audition, she performed \u201cBlue Bayou\u201d by Linda Ronstadt. Levine turned for the performance, landing Drew on his team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so happy that I found my way to you and I don\u2019t have to deal with them,\u201d the Maroon 5 singer joked. \u201cI really think you\u2019re special. You struggled a little bit in the beginning, I heard you trying to find it. I don\u2019t care about that. That happens to everybody. You really salvaged the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson agreed that Drew will fare well in the competition because of her difficult song choice, and Legend praised Drew for \u201cturning around\u201d the performance like Levine mentioned.<\/p>\n

Syd Millevoi<\/h2>\n

Next up, Syd Millevoi, who sings in a wedding band, performed \u201cMamma Knows Best\u201d by Jessie J<\/a>. Both Legend and Levine turned around from the very first note. \u201cYou have got to be kidding me,\u201d Clarkson, who was out of the running because of her full team, complained. \u201cI\u2019m so mad right now!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand what just happened,\u201d Clarkson told Syd. \u201cI am so angry.\u201d Levine, meanwhile, said that he was \u201csuper stoked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour vocal pierced through this audience and shook us all to our core. There\u2019s that sense of soul and urgency and passion. Your type of performing is a lost art form that I feel like needs to be thrust back into the spotlight,\u201d Levine added.<\/p>\n

Legend admitted he was \u201cin awe\u201d of Syd. \u201cYou were sent from heaven to fill that final spot and you can win this competition,\u201d he added. Legend won the battle against Levine, adding Syd to his now-full team.<\/p>\n

Daniel Sovich<\/h2>\n

With just one spot left on Levine\u2019s team, Daniel Sovich hoped to join the show with his rendition of \u201cJust the Way You Are\u201d by Billy Joel<\/a>. While Levine noted, \u201cI love this song,\u201d the performance didn\u2019t pique his interest enough to push his button.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt more Broadway than anything else,\u201d Clarkson admitted, which tracks, since Daniel previously booked a Broadway gig before COVID-19 shut the show down in 2020. \u201cBut you have a great voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Levine agreed, adding, \u201cIt did feel theatrical at times and I don\u2019t think that\u2019s a bad thing, but the vocal has a sort of an understated-ness to it that when you lose that sometimes it can become a different thing, so it kind of brought me outside of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legend gave Jacob some advice for what he can improve on so he can come back and try out again.<\/p>\n

Jared Shoemaker<\/h2>\n

The final Blind Audition was from Jared Shoemaker. He performed \u201cI Never Lie\u201d by Zach Top, and it was enough to get Levine to turn around and fill out his team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so happy right now because their teams are full,\u201d Levine bragged. \u201cThe subtle simplicity of your voice is so refreshing. The emotion and little breaks of your voice that I love so much, you just have one of those great voices. I don\u2019t have anybody like you on my team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who won the Triple Turn competition?<\/h2>\n

Clarkson and Levine tied for the Triple Turn competition with three each. So, as a tiebreaker, the amount of two-chair turns each coach won was factored in, and Clarkson was named the winner.<\/p>\n

This means that Clarkson will have a Super Steal in the Battle Rounds, which she\u2019ll be able to use one time to cancel out any other Steals for that singer.<\/p>\n
