Small Writers Series lecture at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, the Kennedy Family Theatre at Barton College. <\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\"><span>The lecture, free and open to the public, will showcase the work of a prominent voice in North Carolina poetry, whose writing blends vivid imagery with personal reflection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\"><span>Riviere-Seel is the author of four poetry collections, including \u201cThe Serial Killer\u2019s Daughter,\u201d winner of the Roanoke-Chowan Award. Her most recent book, \u201cBecause I Did Not Drown,\u201d combines poetry and personal essays, exploring themes of memory, survival and identity. Her work has appeared widely in literary journals and anthologies, and she has served as poet-in-residence at the North Carolina Zoo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\"><span>She taught for 15 years in the University of North Carolina at Asheville\u2019s Great Smokies Writing Program and served two years as the N.C. Poetry Society\u2019s Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for the western region of the state. Before earning her master\u2019s degree in fine arts from Queens University of Charlotte, she worked in journalism, publicity, editing and lobbying. Riviere-Seel previously participated in Barton\u2019s 2008 \u201cWalking Into April\u201d Poetry Day, a celebration of contemporary North Carolina poetry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\"><span>She currently serves on the board of directors for the Weymouth Center for the Arts &amp; Humanities and co-chairs its literary committee.
