Quentin Tarantino went off on Rosanna Arquette after she recently criticized his use of the N-word<\/a> in his filmography. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The filmmaker accused the \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d actor of \u201ctrashing\u201d his 1994 film, in which she played the girlfriend of drug dealer Lance (Eric Stoltz), for \u201cvery cynical reasons.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI hope the publicity you\u2019re getting from 132 different media outlets writing your name and printing your picture was worth disrespecting me and a film I remember quite clearly you were thrilled to be a part of?\u201d the director wrote in a heated statement obtained by multiple<\/a> outlets.<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cDo you feel this way now? Very possibly. But after I gave you a job, and you took the money, to trash it for what I suspect is very cynical reasons, shows a decided lack of class, no less honor,\u201d he continued. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Claiming \u201cthere is supposed to be an esprit de corps between artistic colleagues,\u201d he added, \u201cbut it would appear the objective was accomplished. Congratulations.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Tarantino\u2019s response came after Arquette discussed her brief role in \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d in an interview<\/span> with The Sunday Times (UK)<\/a><\/span> over the weekend. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n During the conversation, the 66-year-old actor decried that Tarantino, 62, has been given a \u201chall pass\u201d to use the racial slur in movies like \u201cDjango Unchained,\u201d \u201cThe Hateful Eight,\u201d \u201cJackie Brown\u201d and \u201cPulp Fiction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cPersonally I am over the use of the N-word \u2014 I hate it. I cannot stand that he has been given a hall pass,\u201d Arquette told the outlet<\/span>. \u201cIt\u2019s not art, it\u2019s just racist and creepy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n While she told The Times that she thinks \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d was \u201ciconic\u201d on a \u201clot of levels,\u201d she said that Tarantino had no right to use the derogatory term.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The N-word was spoken more than 100 times by both white and Black actors in 2012\u2019s \u201cDjango Unchained\u201d starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The controversial film scored five nominations at the 2013 Academy Awards, with Waltz winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Tarantino also took home the award for Best Original Screenplay for the Western flick. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Tarantino has repeatedly defended his use of the racial slur \u2014 even speaking the term backstage at the 2013 Golden Globes while delivering a message to his critics following his Best Screenplay win for \u201cDjango Unchained.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThey\u2019re saying I should soften it, they\u2019re saying I should lie, they\u2019re saying I should whitewash, they\u2019re saying I should massage,\u201d the director said. \u201cAnd I never do that when it comes to my characters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In 2022, Tarantino took aim at his critics again, defiantly telling them they should \u201csee something else\u201d if they take issue with the N-word being used in his films. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIf you have a problem with my movies, then they aren\u2019t the movies to go see. Apparently, I\u2019m not making them for you,\u201d he said while appearing on \u201cWho\u2019s Talking to Chris Wallace<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Many other Hollywood stars have condemned Tarantino for using the term, including director Spike Lee, who called the filmmaker\u2019s actions \u201cdisrespectful to my ancestors<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Both Foxx and Jackson, who starred in \u201cDjango Unchained,\u201d have backed Tarantino.
