Pioneering <\/span>punk rocker<\/span><\/a> Jello Biafra<\/span><\/a> was hospitalized this past weekend after suffering a stroke.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Biafra, the former lead singer of the<\/span> Dead Kennedys,<\/span><\/a> announced Monday on Facebook<\/span><\/a> that he had a hemorrhagic stroke caused by high blood pressure over the weekend. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI hopped out of my bed because I needed to pee, and my left leg just collapsed under me and I fell to the floor,\u201d the singer said in the post. \u201cI couldn\u2019t even break the fall with my left arm because it wasn\u2019t working either. I tried to hop back up again, and I couldn\u2019t. I realized I had \u2018fallen and I can\u2019t get up!\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Biafra said it was at this point he realized, \u201cOh shit, I\u2019m having a stroke!\u201d but added, \u201cI still have a lot of great stuff in me, but right now I gotta lotta of rehabbing to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The post notes that Biafra was hospitalized as of Monday and is in stable condition and getting the care he needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Biafra, 67, co-founded the Dead Kennedys in San Francisco in 1978, and was the lead singer until leaving the band in 1986.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The band\u2019s best known songs include \u201cHoliday In Cambodia,\u201d \u201cToo Drunk To Fuck,\u201d and \u201cNazi Punks Fuck Off,\u201d which Biafra reworked into \u201cNazi Trumps Fuck Off\u201d<\/a> for a March 2025 concert.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n After leaving the band, Biafra worked as a solo artist, played electropunk music in the Witch Trials, and started the band Lard with members of industrial metal band Ministry, according to Pitchfork<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Although the Dead Kennedys reformed in 2001, Biafra declined to join. Three years earlier, other band members sued him<\/a> for allegedly withholding royalties, and he was forced to pay outstanding payments and punitive damages. He also had to turn over most of the Dead Kennedys\u2019 back catalog.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n His relationship with the band doesn\u2019t seem to have gotten better.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Last month, he criticized his former bandmates for signing on to Punk In The Park, a multi-city music festival series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n After it was revealed the festival\u2019s organizer, Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions, supported Donald Trump<\/a> in 2024, the surviving Dead Kennedys pulled out of some, but not all, gigs, inspiring Biafra to go scorched-earth on his former bandmates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
