SPRINGFIELD, Mo. \u2014 Springfield residents and downtown business owners say a proposed new music venue could bring fresh energy, more visitors and an economic boost to the city\u2019s center.<\/p>\n

The Holler Music Hall is planned for a vacant property behind the College Station Theaters downtown. While construction is still months away, the project is already drawing positive reactions from people who live and work nearby.<\/p>\n

Jasmine Lewis, a Springfield resident who lives near the site, said she believes the venue would fit well in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic is a very big part of culture, and I think having something that\u2019s there for everybody to use is something that\u2019s really useful to the community,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n

Developers have described The Holler Music Hall as a state-of-the-art entertainment facility with seating for more than 2,000 people. If built as planned, it would be the largest venue of its kind in the Ozarks.<\/p>\n

Project developers say the venue is expected to generate about $9 million in annual economic impact and roughly $200,000 in local sales tax revenue each year.<\/p>\n

Jared Stevenson, owner of Harbell\u2019s Grill and Sports Bar, said he believes the project would help drive more foot traffic downtown and support surrounding businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a rough couple of years for some folks downtown, but there are some new places opening, which I think is great,\u201d Stevenson said. \u201cHaving a concert venue is a huge plus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stevenson said downtown already offers attractions such as theaters and galleries, and he sees the new venue as another draw for residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny new business down here, we welcome,\u201d Stevenson said. \u201cWe want more of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Developers hope to break ground on the project in April.<\/p>\n
