\u201cReminders of Him<\/a>\u201d is one of the most unfussy soap-operatic weepers I\u2019ve seen at the movies in some time. It\u2019s the latest adaptation of a novel by Colleen Hoover<\/a> (who co-wrote the screenplay), and to the extent that her brand \u2014 at least, as it translates to the big screen \u2014 has been defined by the sleight-of-hand emotional power of \u201cIt Ends with Us<\/a>\u201d or the grandiose convolutions of last year\u2019s \u201cRegretting You<\/a>,\u201d I expected another full-throttle round of overripe passion. But \u201cReminders of Him<\/a>\u201d is notably restrained \u2014 a good thing more than not, even if the film does get a bit languid at times. It tells its story without making us feel used.<\/p>\n
