But according to journalist Richard Kay, who was also a close friend and confidante of the late Princess of Wales, Diana had other plans for him when he was younger, and it was all down to Prince William<\/a>\u2019s \u201cshy\u201d nature. He told the Daily Mail<\/a>\u2019s Palace Confidential podcast: \u201cI think William has been a bit of a surprise. He was a shy young man.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cCertainly, when his mother was still alive, she would tell me that she never really thought that William wanted the \u2018top job,\u2019 as she called it. The idea that he would one day wear the crown.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cShe, in her mind, was preparing the way for the possibility that it would be Harry who succeeded his father.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cShe had a nickname for Harry: She used to call him ‘Good King Harry’ \u2014 a throwback to medieval days.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But Mr Kay then took aim at the Duke and said \u201cwe are all rather grateful\u201d that things \u201chaven\u2019t worked out\u201d like that.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He added: \u201cThe consensus was \u2018we got the right one.\u2019 And, I think we got the right one in William as Prince of Wales.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He said of William: \u201cWhat I quite like about him is that he is coming up with some quite different ways to approach royalty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
