After joining in on the internet\u2019s crucifixion of <\/span>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/span> over his saying that \u201cno one cares\u201d about ballet and opera, Doja Cat is now walking back her criticism. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The rapper slammed the actor in a since-deleted TikTok video<\/a> from Tuesday, only to express remorse in a Wednesday follow-up TikTok video<\/a>, telling her 27 million-plus followers that she made her initial remarks \u201cin the heat of the moment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI am going to come out and say that I know nothing about opera. I know nothing about ballet,\u201d Doja Cat clarified. \u201cBut in no way shape or form am I like a real professional dancer \u2026 I\u2019ve never been to a ballet.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI\u2019ve never seen an opera,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd I took it upon myself yesterday to kind of give it to the man because there is a culture based around outrage and things like that and people want to feel like they\u2019re part of something. It\u2019s a need to connect, whether good or bad.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Doja Cat explained that she had a change of heart after watching a TikTok video of an unnamed man who is \u201cwell-versed in opera.\u201d She said the TikTok user broke down Chalamet\u2019s response in a way that made her adjust her opinion. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Noting that although she thinks Chalamet \u201cpoorly\u201d made his comments, she now believes what the actor said is true, adding, \u201cOpera and ballet are really [an] old art form, and it is a dying industry.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhat I was doing yesterday was virtue signaling because I wanted to connect and I knew that Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s goof-up was something that I could leverage in order for people to connect with me and fuck with me,\u201d Doja Cat admitted. \u201cAnd it\u2019s easy. It\u2019s a modern way to garner clicks, likes, approval and all kinds of things like that from people. And so I did that yesterday, and I didn\u2019t really think about why I was doing it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The songwriter also confessed she made the video in an attempt to try to \u201cseem sincere\u201d to her social media audience. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI wanted to be pat on the back the way everybody else is patting each other on the back in the comments sections. And I wanted to look like a hero, and that\u2019s what happened. And when I got it, I didn\u2019t like it so much.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n She told her followers that she\u2019s \u201cnot proud\u201d of her previous video,\u201d adding, \u201cIt just kind of furthers the fact that sometimes I think shit and then I\u2019m like, never mind. So never mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Chalamet\u2019s remarks in question came during a celebrity.land<\/a> and Variety town hall event in Austin, Texas, alongside Matthew McConaughey last month. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore,\u2019\u201d Chalamet told McConaughey.<\/a> He quickly added, \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there.
