(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 King Charles and other members of the royal family<\/a> were met by protesters during their largest public outing since former Prince Andrew\u2019s arrest<\/a>.<\/p>\n Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday, where they were heckled by members of Republic, the anti-monarchy group, according to People Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n Protesters held bright yellow protesters that spelled out, \u201cWhat did you know?\u201d in what may have been a reference to Andrew\u2019s connection<\/a> to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n Republic members also had signs with anti-monarchy messages and other references to the former Duke of York.<\/p>\n Andrew, who\u2019s been mentioned in the Epstein files released by the estate and Justice Department and has been accused of sexual abuse, was arrested<\/a> on Feb. 19 for allegedly\u00a0sending trade reports<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0Epstein\u00a0in 2010, years after he claimed they\u2019d\u00a0severed all ties.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cOther events have rocked the monarchy, but something from within \u2014 where someone is being arrested \u2014 is very different. This is much more serious,\u201d a Palace insider told People.<\/p>\n If Andrew is charged and convicted of misconduct in public office, the consequences could rock the royal family.<\/p>\n Under U.K. law, misconduct in public office carries a potential life sentence.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it\u2019s very serious, that is certainly a possibility,\u201d royal biographer Andrew Lownie told NewsNation\u2019s Paula Froelich<\/a>. \u201cFifteen, 20 years in prison, I think this is all rather academic, but yes.\u201d<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
