Blige can be, unless Erykah Badu counts in her gnomic way. Scott\u2019s best work manifests as an unstoppable overflow of personality, and her new album, To Whom This May Concern<\/em>, is among her best, a real Sunday afternoon kinda record. \u201cI wasn\u2019t the aesthetic\/I guess, I guess I get it,\u201d she shrugs as he overcomes the pressha to conform here, suggesting that even this rock-steady diva has her moments of doubt. A quarter-century into her recording career, she\u2019s more Jill Scott than ever\u2014which is how life\u2019s supposed to work out, ain\u2019t it?\u00a0<\/p>\n Hemlocke Springs, \u201cBe the Girl!\u201d<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n The finale of this TikTok star\u2019s first full-length, The Apple Tree Under the Sea<\/em>, is aspirational pop at its most epic, and I do not use that word lightly, frequently, or without powerful reservations. Without a distinctive guitarist as a foil (Johnny Marr, of course, but later Mick Ronson as well), he\u2019s naught to fall back upon than his miserable personality and need to oversing.
