Mickey Rourke<\/strong><\/a> is explaining the real reason behind his recent eviction after it was reported that he withheld nearly $60,000 in rent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason I stopped paying rent was because the living conditions in the house had become unacceptable,\u201d Rourke, 73, told E! News<\/em><\/a> in a statement on Wednesday, March 11. \u201cFor months there were serious problems that repeatedly went unaddressed despite my efforts to have them fixed.\u201d<\/p>\n

He alleged that there were \u201crodent issues\u201d that were \u201cnever fully resolved.\u201d Rourke also claimed that \u201cbasic maintenance was never properly handled\u201d on the property despite his \u201crepeated requests for repairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWithholding rent was not a decision I made lightly,\u201d Rourke continued. \u201cI simply could not continue paying for a house that was in such poor condition after so many attempts to have these issues corrected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rourke was ordered to vacate his Los Angeles home earlier this week after failing to pay rent, according to a recent judgement obtained by multiple outlets.<\/p>\n

People<\/em><\/a> was first to report the news on Tuesday, March 10, revealing that Rourke\u2019s rental agreement had been canceled and his lease was forfeited. The property has officially been returned to Rourke\u2019s former landlord.<\/p>\n

Court filings from December 2024 revealed that Rourke had been served with a notice apparently stating that he owed $59,100 in back rent. His choices were to pay the balance or vacate the property.<\/p>\n

In January, a GoFundMe page was launched to allegedly assist the actor raise money for his back rent. However, Rourke denied setting it up<\/a> in a statement shared via Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money, like charity,\u201d he said in the January 5 video. \u201cAnd that\u2019s not me, OK? If I needed money, I wouldn\u2019t ask for no f***ing charity. I\u2019d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fundraiser, which raised more than $102,000<\/a>, has since been taken down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years. My life is very simple. I don\u2019t go to outside sources like that,\u201d he continued. \u201cYeah, it is embarrassing, but I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll get over it like everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n
