Happy (almost) 313 Day, Detroit!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is a lot to celebrate in March \u2014 the city\u2019s special day and the women who helped shape it. This week\u2019s events bring a little bit of everything: poetry and chess tournaments, youth showcases, wellness markets, art openings and riverfront celebrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re repping the 313 on Belle Isle or learning about the women who built this city, there\u2019s plenty happening around town.<\/p>\n

Thursday<\/h2>\n

\ud83d\udcdd Share your love for Detroit in 17 syllables at the Detroit Love Haiku Open Mic<\/a> on Friday at The LOVE Building. Hosted by Detroit Poet Laureate jessica Care moore<\/strong>, the night features DJ sets and an open mic where attendees can perform Detroit-themed haiku \u2014 and even record their poem for the \u201cDetroit Love\u201d archive. 3\ufe0f\u20e31\ufe0f\u20e33\ufe0f\u20e3 <\/strong>Rep the 313 on Belle Isle with a full day of music, art and community activities<\/a> celebrating Detroit. Our favorites include a Detroit house party with DJ Bruce Bailey<\/strong> at the newly-reopened casino, live music at the Flynn Pavilion and family-friendly events at the aquarium \u2014 including a chance to name a baby sturgeon. \ud83c\udfa4 Support Detroit\u2019s next generation of poets at the Detroit Youth Poetry Con<\/a> on Saturday at Wayne State University. Teens will take the stage for performances after a day of workshops and writing, including a special appearance by spoken-word artist Mahogany Jones<\/strong>. Stop by to watch the performances and celebrate young voices. Free.<\/p>\n
