BARCELONA, Spain (AP) \u2014 British rock star Morrissey<\/a> won\u2019t perform a concert in Valencia after festivities in the Spanish city kept him from getting a proper night\u2019s rest, the former frontman of The Smiths<\/a> said Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A statement posted on Morrissey\u2019s website on the morning of the concert said that the \u201cscheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Morrissey arrived to Valencia on Wednesday after a two-day drive from Milan, but he was disturbed during the night by the festival that included, the statement said, \u201cloud techno singing (and) megaphone announcements\u201d that were audible from inside his hotel room.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThis experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In another short post on his website, the singer said his night was an \u201cindescribable hell.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The website added in bold print that \u201cThe show is not canceled. Circumstances render the show impossible,\u201d making it unclear if it will be rescheduled or if ticket holders can request a refund.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The 66-year-old Morrissey is touring to promote his album \u201cMake-up Is a Lie,\u201d his first in six years, which was released earlier this month. It is the 14th solo album for the ex-singer of The Smiths, an iconic 1980s rock band.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n While loved by his fans for timeless hits such as \u201cHow Soon Is Now?\u201d and \u201cEveryday Is Like Sunday,\u201d Morrissey is also known for his temperamental character and wide array of shifting political views. His support of animal rights has made him a fierce critic of Spain\u2019s traditional bullfights, for example.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
