\n\tTwo days before he is set to perform at the 2026 Oscars, Josh Groban<\/a> has announced his new album, Cinematic<\/em>, which is due May 8 via Reprise Records. A tribute to music from the silver screen, the 10-track album was produced by Greg Wells and was recorded in both Los Angeles and London.<\/p>\n \n\tIt\u2019s Groban\u2019s 10th studio album and his first in more than five years. Cinematic <\/em>is something of a companion to his 2015 album Stages<\/em>, which consisted of songs from Broadway musicals. Stages<\/em> brought Groban a Grammy nod for best traditional pop vocal album, one of three he has received in that category.<\/p>\n \n\tTo herald the announcement, Josh has shared his soaring new rendition of the Elton John<\/a>\/Tim Rice<\/a> ballad \u201cCan You Feel the Love Tonight\u201d from The Lion King<\/em>, featuring the Gay Men\u2019s Chorus of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n \n\tTwo other tracks also feature special guests. Jennifer Hudson<\/a>, who is the special guest on Groban\u2019s upcoming North American tour, is featured on \u201cUnchained Melody,\u201d best known for its appearance in the 1990 film Ghost<\/em>. Groban\u2019s dad, Jack Groban, plays a trumpet solo on \u201cMoon River,\u201d the classic ballad from the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThere\u2019s something incredibly powerful about the way a song or score can elevate a story and stay with you long after the credits roll,\u201d Groban said in a statement. \u201cWith Cinematic<\/em>, I wanted to honor that feeling \u2014 the nostalgia, the drama, the romance \u2014 while bringing my own voice and perspective to these timeless songs. Recording this album felt like stepping into some of the most iconic moments in film history, and I hope listeners are transported the same way I have always been when the lights go down and the music begins.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFive of the 10 tracks won Oscars for best original song. Two others were nominated but didn\u2019t win. \u201cUnchained Melody\u201d was nominated when it was written for the 1955 film Unchained<\/em>. (It lost to \u201cLove Is a Many-Splendored Thing.\u201d) Phil Collins<\/a>\u2019 \u201cAgainst All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)\u201d was nominated, but lost to Stevie Wonder<\/a>\u2019s \u201cI Just Called to Say I Love You.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe three other songs on the album weren\u2019t eligible for Oscars because they weren\u2019t written for the films in which they appeared. They are \u201cBrucia La Terra,\u201d a Sicilian-language rendition of \u201cLove Theme From The Godfather\u201d (sometimes known as \u201cSpeak Softly, Love\u201d); \u201cAs Time Goes By,\u201d famous for its use in Casablanca<\/em>; and \u201cStand By Me,\u201d which was a hit long before it was featured in Rob Reiner\u2019s classic film of the same name.<\/p>\n \n\tOn Feb. 7, Groban kicked off his GEMS World Tour with a performance in Honolulu. There are seven remaining dates on the World Tour. From June 2 to July 3, the tour continues through North America with special guest Jennifer Hudson. Groban will return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this fall for \u201cGEMS The Las Vegas Residency\u201d (Oct. 2, 3, 7 and 9).<\/p>\n
