The US-Ireland Alliance celebrated the 20th annual Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday night at the Ebell of Los Angeles theater.<\/p>\n

The awards aim to recognize creatives of Irish descent, this year honoring Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson<\/a> and director Lee Cronin<\/a>, along with Irish-American actress Maura Tierney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve all heard of the British invasion of music. Well, there is now an Irish invasion in film and television,\u201d said Matt Walsh<\/a>, the night\u2019s emcee.<\/p>\n

Walsh<\/a> gave a shout-out to the Irish nominees at the upcoming 98th Oscars, several who were present in the room, including \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash<\/a>\u201d Visual Effects artist Richie Baneham<\/a>; John Kelly<\/a> and Andrew Freedman<\/a>, the filmmakers behind the animated short film \u201cRetirement Plan,\u201d which Gleeson voices; and Ken Wardrop<\/a>, producer of \u201cSanatorium<\/a>,\u201d Ireland\u2019s submission for international feature film.<\/p>\n
