If you\u2019ve spent any time haunting a West Village coffee shop or scrolling TikTok recently, you\u2019ve probably noticed a new IT couple stealing our hearts and influencing our streetwear: JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, the subjects of FX\u2019s Love Story, a new show from Ryan Murphy that chronicles the late couple\u2019s relationship.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I tried to get into the first episode, but no amount of CBK\u2019s chicness or Paul Anthony Kelly\u2019s bone structure can glaze over the Ryan Murphy\u2013ness of it all. The best part of the show, though\u2014at least, to me\u2014is all the drama it\u2019s stirred up. Several celebs have emerged to make public statements denouncing it, and I love it when that happens! And the fact that it\u2019s happening with a Ryan Murphy show makes it all the more fun.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Daryl Hannah\u2014who\u00a0dated JFK Jr. before he met and married Bessette\u2014went so far as to condemn the entire show in a guest essay<\/a> for The New York Times titled \u201cHow Can \u2018Love Story\u2019 Get Away With This?\u201d It\u2019s not even an Instagram story callout. It\u2019s a full op-ed! The drama!\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the essay, she calls the show \u201ctragedy-exploiting\u201d and claims that the version of her portrayed is \u201cnot even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct, or my relationship with John. The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue.\u201d The pair had an on-again\/off-again relationship for roughly five years, but officially broke up in 1994.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hannah also called her on-screen self \u201cirritating, self-absorbed, whiny, and inappropriate.\u201d Which\u2026 well, yeah, I\u2019d be pissed, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rosanna Arquette, a longtime friend of Hannah, also came out of the woodwork, posting a supportive statement on Instagram<\/a>: \u201cThe portrayal of her on the streaming thing is bullshit. Her love with John F. Kennedy Jr. was real and some of the happiest times he ever had\u2014just ask his family. But no one did.\u201d<\/div>\n

And it does appear no one did. Because when anything happens in Kennedy Land, we must turn to the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy and nephew of John F. Kennedy Jr., Jack Schlossberg, who, we can confirm, has been deeply unhappy about Murphy\u2019s storytelling. \u201cI would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that\u2019s a capital \u2018F\u2019 for fiction,\u201d he recently<\/a> told CBS This Morning.<\/div>\n

Despite the backlash, the true bellwether of any TV show\u2019s success these days is social media, and by that measure, Love Story has struck gold. \u201cJFK Jr. Lookalike Contents\u201d are popping up in every major city, and it seems a new item from CBK\u2019s wardrobe is trending every day, as people attempt to recreate her minimalist, \u201cquiet luxury\u201d style, which, as a side note, has got to be some sort of recession indicator.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Again, I\u2019ve tried so many times with Mr. Murphy, and I\u2019ve ultimately decided that the two of us just don\u2019t click. But sorry, I have to join the discourse, guys! It\u2019s too juicy to resist. What can I say? Is it fact? Is it fiction? Or is it just\u2026based on a true story?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
