The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched a scathing attack on a \u201cderanged\u201d author whose new book claims Queen Camilla once told a friend: \u201cMeghan\u2019s brainwashed \u200cHarry.\u201d<\/p>\n

The royal couple hit out at Tom Bower, the author of Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, criticising his \u201cfixation\u201d on the pair.<\/p>\n

Extracts from the book, which is being released later this month, also claim the Prince and Princess of Wales considered Meghan \u201ca threat\u201d as tensions escalated before the Sussexes\u2019 decision to quit Britain for the US.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Sussexes issued a statement responding to the claims in the book, saying Bower\u2019s \u201ccommentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation\u201d.<\/p>\n

They added: \u201cThis is someone who has publicly stated, \u2018the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,\u2019 language that speaks for itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.\u201d<\/p>\n

In extracts released on Friday, the book also appears to suggest Harry was \u201cshocked\u201d by the downfall of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after revelations about his association with the American financier Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unpredicted and unimagined humiliation of Andrew shocked Harry,\u201d Bower wrote. \u201cRightly, Harry fears that the future King William could remove all the Sussexes\u2019 titles and effectively banish him from Britain.\u201d<\/p>\n

The book also alleges that Megan told William: \u201cIf you don\u2019t mind, get your finger out of my face,\u201d during a teatime reconciliation meeting that had \u201cspun out of control\u201d, held shortly after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon in 2018.<\/p>\n

Bower also writes about the pair\u2019s Netflix deal and appearance at the 2025 Invictus Games, founded by Harry<\/a> for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans, calling them \u201cthe Meghan Games\u201d. He claims that, after the perceived failure<\/a> of the couple\u2019s deal with the streaming company, \u201cHarry agreed that [Meghan] could star\u201d at the sports tournament.<\/p>\n

In an extract, Bower cites two Canadian executives dismissed from the games, who \u201cresented the pushy Sussexes\u201d. They claimed that \u201cMeghan was a distraction from the injured veterans\u201d.<\/p>\n

Harry has continued his battle against the media this year. In January, he accused the publisher of the Daily Mail<\/a> of wanting to drive him \u201cto drugs and drinking\u201d by placing his life under surveillance, as he told the high court that it continued to \u201ccome after\u201d him and his wife. Speaking in court on the verge of tears, he said Associated Newspapers<\/a> Ltd (ANL) had continued to make Meghan\u2019s life \u201can absolute misery\u201d during his litigation against it.<\/p>\n

Before the legal proceeding began, Meghan accused the Daily Mail<\/a> in December of breaching \u201cclear ethical boundaries\u201d by reporting from the bedside of her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after his claims that he had not received his daughter\u2019s messages. ANL denies all the allegations of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
