The genre lines between country music and rock music can often be blurred. For decades, crossover hits have occurred within both music styles. These are three recent country hits that boldly feature a rock song.<\/p>\n
In 2025, Russell Dickerson had a No. 1 hit with \u201cHappen To Me\u201d. From his Famous Back Home <\/em>record, the song includes part of Cyndi Lauper\u2019s \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun\u201d. Dickerson wrote \u201cHappen To Me\u201d with Chris LaCorte, Jessie Jo Dillon,\u00a0and Chase McGill. Robert Hazard<\/a>, who wrote \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun\u201d, is also credited.<\/p>\n \u201cHappen To Me\u201d says in part, \u201cShe said, \u2018Shut up, come and dance with me\u2019 \/ And now she\u2019s singin\u2019 \/ \u2018Girls just wanna have fun\u2019 at the top of her lungs \/ Don\u2019t even know she\u2019s \u2019bout to wreck someone \/ And, boys, I\u2019m in trouble now, ain\u2019t even tryna get out \/ So, come on, baby, take me down, down, down, yeah \/ Don\u2019t know what happened tonight, don\u2019t know what happened last week \/ Don\u2019t know what happened to her, but she\u2019s \u2019bout to happen to me<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n On Scotty McCreery\u2019s 2024 Scooter & Friends<\/em> EP is \u201cBottle Rockets<\/a>\u201c, a song he sings with Hootie & The Blowfish. Not only does the legendary rock band join McCreery on \u201cBottle Rockets\u201d, but the song also uses part of their debut single \u201cHold My Hand\u201d. <\/p>\n McCreery wrote \u201cBottle Rockets\u201d with Bobby Hamrick, Brent Anderson, Derek George, Jeremy Bussey, Monty Criswell, and Frank Rogers. Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber,\u00a0and Jim Sonefeld, the four \u201cHold My Hand\u201d songwriters, are also credited on the song.<\/p>\n \u201cBottle Rockets\u201d says, \u201cBottle rockets in the sky \/ Bare feet in the sand \/ Bonfire in her eyes \/ Cold beer in the can \/ Moonlight on the waves \/ Her kiss in the dark \/ The smile on her face when she\u2019d make me break out my guitar and play \/ Hold my hand<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe started strumming the tune that would eventually become \u2018Bottle Rockets\u2019\u201d, McCreery recalls to \u00a0Billboard<\/em><\/a>. \u201cAnd at the end of the makeshift chorus we had at that point, Frank went into \u2018Hold My Hand.\u2019 It fit like a glove. Everyone was laughing and high-fiving because we knew we were on to something. The song really just spilled out from there.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2023, Jake Owen released \u201cOn The Boat Again\u201d.
