Keep warm this week with the various happenings in Brookline. To kick off the week, the Brookline Village Public Library is hosting a group for teens to learn about stitching, while Coolidge Corner Theatre has a seminar about Mira Nair and her film, \u201cMonsoon Wedding,\u201d on Tuesday. Continuing through the week, there will be a celebration of Women\u2019s History Month on Wednesday at the Brookline Village Library. There will also be a poetry night at Brookline Booksmith on Thursday, while ArtsBrookline hosts an open studio for attendees to stop by and learn about art processes and try it out themselves. On Friday and Saturday, Coolidge Corner Theatre will show shorts from the Boston Underground Film Festival. And on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a tale of friendship performed at the Puppet Showplace Theater. Finally, there will be two musical performances on Sunday and another speaker event at Coolidge Corner Theatre.<\/p>\n
Stitch in Time<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n The Brookline Village Public Library is hosting a group for teens in grades 8-12 to learn about stitching. This event will be no-stakes, and supplies will be provided for the fiber arts group.\u00a0<\/p>\n Free, 3 \u2013 5 p.m., Brookline Village Library<\/em><\/p>\n Coolidge Corner Seminar: \u201cMonsoon Wedding\u201d<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n As a part of Coolidge Corner Theatre\u2019s Coolidge Education Program, the theater will host a seminar about director Mira Nair and her film, \u201cMonsoon Wedding.\u201d Nair is regarded as one of the most influential global filmmakers of the Indian diaspora, and has described this film as a \u201creality check\u201d version of a conventional Bollywood film, as it draws on elements from popular Hindi cinema, while grounding the work with a socially attentive lens. The seminar will be hosted by Dr. Shilpa Parnami, who coordinates the Hindi-Urdu language program and teaches courses on South Asian culture, cinema and literature at Boston University.\u00a0Starting at $26, 6:15 p.m., Coolidge Corner Theatre<\/em><\/p>\n Celebrating Women\u2019s History Month: Trailblazers by Timing \u2013 Activists by Choice<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n This celebration honors the women who fight for social, legal and political equality, and those who have effected change in the United States. This program is co-sponsored by The Brookline Senior Center, BrooklineCAN and the League of Women Voters Brookline. Prior registration is required, and refreshments will be provided.\u00a0<\/p>\n Free, 1 p.m., Hunneman Hall at Brookline Village Library<\/em><\/p>\n Third Thursdays Poetry: Natalya Sukhonos & Heidi Seaborn<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n For this in-person event at Brookline Booksmith, poets Natalya Sukhonos and Heidi Seaborn will be hosting this evening of poetry. Sukhonos is multilingual, speaking Russian, English, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian, and holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Harvard University. Earlier this month, she released her third book, \u201cSunlight Trapped in Stone.\u201d Seaborn is Executive Editor of \u201cThe Adroit Journal\u201d and winner of \u201cThe Missouri Review\u201d Editors Prize in Poetry. Many of these short films offer bleakly funny commentary on contemporary societal ills, while others prioritize creepy atmosphere or body horror. Some of the shorts featured in this program will be \u201cWhat Are Grandchildren Made Of?\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Not Me.\u201d These shorts will be shown in programs on both Friday and Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n $19.50, 11:59 p.m., Coolidge Corner Theatre<\/em><\/p>\n The Dragon\u2019s Laugh + Other Tales by Midnight Radio Show<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n The Puppet Showplace Theater presents a show of enchanting fairytales. Viewers will join \u201cbona fide fairy princess\u201d Charlotte Lily Gaspard on her adventures, which will be accompanied by songs by Midnight Radio Show. In one story, a dragon and a fairy become friends, despite disapproving families, and when complications ensue, the companions must go on a quest together as they prove that friendship can be found anywhere and with anyone.\u00a0<\/p>\n $18, 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m., Puppet Showplace Theater<\/em><\/p>\n Cinematic Composers<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n The Brookline Music School faculty and guest artists will perform in a concert of film favorites at the Brookline Village Public Library this Sunday.
