They are a No. 15 seed and will play Purdue. <\/p>\n<p>            <span class=\"byline\"><br \/>\n                TRACY KIMBALL<br \/>\n            <\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><!-- WPS-5038 -- removed the script from WPS and added the placeholder for trinity player --><!----><!----><!----><!----><!----><!----><!-- CONTENT --><!--[--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>A week ago, the Queens Royals muscled through an emotional overtime win that <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/sports\/college\/mens-basketball\/article314974011.html\">stamped their ticket to the NCAA Tournament<\/a> and launched them into the greater college basketball consciousness.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Since then, it\u2019s all been gravy.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Even when Queens\u2019 opponent came to the fore on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.queens.edu\/\">Queens University of Charlotte<\/a> men\u2019s basketball team learned Sunday evening that it would be a No. 15 seed and play No. 2-seeded Purdue in St. Louis in the first round of March Madness. The game is set for Friday; tip-off time is to be announced.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The players and coaches received the news just like the rest of us did, via the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/college-basketball\/news\/selection-sunday-2026-march-madness-bracket-reveal-show\/\">CBS Selection Show<\/a>, the television program that sets the bracket for the NCAA Tournament each year. You\u2019d be wrong \u2014 but you\u2019d also be forgiven.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The program, after all, earned its first NCAA Tournament berth as soon it was eligible to do so, in its fourth year as a Division I basketball program. Originally, the school, which made the leap up from Division II dominance in 2023, wasn\u2019t allowed to earn berths in any end-of-season NCAA Tournaments until it served a four-year mandated transition phase. In other words, the basketball program couldn\u2019t partake in March Madness even if it won the ASUN through the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Then, in June 2025, <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/queensathletics.com\/news\/2025\/6\/24\/general-queens-university-of-charlotte-receives-full-ncaa-division-i-status.aspx\">Queens University of Charlotte announced it had received full NCAA Division I status<\/a> after just three years following the Division I Council\u2019s vote in January that shortened the reclassification period for schools going D1. Postseason eligibility, thus, began this fall.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>And although the Royals didn\u2019t win the conference tournament in their first three years, there was still no D2-to-D1 precarity. <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/sports\/college\/article270766587.html\">Queens belonged immediately<\/a>. Especially this year. There was a massive triumph before the year even began, in fact, when the program <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldonline.com\/sports\/high-school\/article297497768.html\">landed Jordan Watford<\/a>, the No. 1-ranked recruit in all of South Carolina. Watford, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound freshman, arrived by way of Lancaster High School and averages 11.9 points and 3.8 assists per game \u2014 and does so, even, despite coming off the bench, a flex of the team\u2019s depth.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>There were plenty other wins in 2025-26 as well. The team went 18-13 (10-5 ASUN) through the regular season, clinching its third winning season in four years.
