\u201cSinners<\/a>\u201d Dp Autumn Durald Arkapaw<\/a> has made history. She is the first woman to ever win the Oscar for best cinematography. Arkapaw, who is of Filipino and African American Creole descent, is now also the first woman of color to win.<\/p>\n

In the history of the category, only three women have ever been nominated: Rachel Morrison<\/a> in 2018 for \u201cMudbound<\/a>,\u201d Ari Wegner<\/a> in 2021 for \u201cThe Power of the Dog<\/a>\u201d and Mandy Walker<\/a> in 2022 for \u201cElvis.\u201d Arkapaw also made history as the first female cinematographer to shoot on Imax 65mm and Ultra Panavision for \u201cSinners<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her thank you speech, she thanked director Ryan Coogler<\/a> and said, \u201cThank you for believing in me and thank you for trusting me, and that\u2019s the kind of guy I get to make films with.\u201d<\/p>\n
