Acadiana features community markets that focus on everything from farm fresh produce, to vintage items and folk arts and crafts. There’s even an outlet for lovers of vinyl records and musical gear to ply their wares.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

On Sunday, March 15, Acadiana Vinyl Haul combined forces with the Rock and Roll Farmers Market on for an afternoon market at Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette. The event was hosted in part to honor the two year anniversary of the death of “Brother Dege & The Brethren” front man Dege Legg<\/a>, who originally founded the Rock and Roll Farmers Market in Lafayette.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

“It’s great for people to be able to trade off records, and this year we expanded to add in the Rock and Roll Farmers Market for used musician gear, which hadn’t been done since Dege passed away,” said\u00a0Travis Gauthier, who has been organizing Acadiana Vinyl Haul swap meets since 2012, and moderating a Facebook group called “The Acadiana Vinyl Haul Group<\/a>” for resellers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vendor Chris Grisaffe, from New Iberia, was selling a stack of 8-track tapes by the likes of Cajun country singer Rod Bernard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They’re an early form of a flash drive,” he said. “You couldn’t back them up. They played forward only. And it was the first time you could take music with you in your car.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

The market was a bonanza for Lafayette musician Elias Saade, who plays with local alt-rock band “Ranch Happenin.'” His band is playing a gig this Friday, March 20, at Feed N Seed in Lafayette.<\/p>\n

“I collect all forms of music\u00a0\u2014 vinyl, CD, cassette, 8-track,” said Saade. He also left the market with a new-to-him guitar, and shared more information about Ranch Happenin’s upcoming show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
