King Charles and Queen Camilla are hosting the President of
\nNigeria on a State Visit, the first to the UK from that country in
\nover 30 years.<\/p>\n

The King was all smiles as he oversaw a ceremonial welcome for
\nPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor
\nCastle.<\/p>\n

The President of Nigeria had arrived at the royal dais in
\nWindsor Great Park in the late morning of March 18 under spring
\nsunshine. President Tinubu had first been greeted by the Prince and
\nPrincess of Wales who accompanied him and Oluremi Tinubu on the
\njourney to the official welcome.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an historic State Visit. The last such visit by a President
\nof Nigeria was 37 years ago.<\/p>\n

There, King Charles and Queen Camilla greeted the President who
\nkissed The Queen\u2019s hand as they said hello for the first time.
\nAfter formal introductions to the dignitaries present, the pomp and
\nceremony of the State Visit really got under way as gun salutes
\nwere fired and the national anthem of Nigeria was played.<\/p>\n

The weather was kind as the traditional carriage procession got
\nunder way with King Charles and President TInubu travelling through
\nWindsor in the sumptuous Australian State Coach.<\/p>\n

Queen Camilla and Mrs Tinubu took the Scottish State Coach in
\nthe procession with the third spot in the parade taken by the Irish
\nState Coach which conveyed the Prince and Princess of Wales.<\/p>\n

The Armed Forces lined the route which took the royal procession
\nfrom Datchet Road to the High Street and swept through the George
\nIV Gateway and into the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

A Guard of Honour was waiting and the national anthems of the UK
\nand Nigeria sounded as the Australian State Coach drove into the
\nheart of Windsor Castle, the oldest working castle in the
\nworld.<\/p>\n

A spectacular military display followed with the President of
\nNigeria joined by King Charles as he inspected the Guard of Honour.
\nThere was then a March Past, adding another ceremonial touch to the
\nstart of this important State Visit.<\/p>\n

The later part of the welcome included a lunch inside Windsor
\nCastle and an exhibition of some of the items in the Royal
\nCollection with a particular link to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The Royal Family will gather later at Windsor Castle for a State
\nBanquet in honour of President and Mrs Tinubu.<\/p>\n
