The former Disney Channel star, who headlines <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.elle.com\/culture\/movies-tv\/a70395888\/hannah-montana-20th-anniversary-special-release-date-news\/\" target=\"_self\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.elle.com\/culture\/movies-tv\/a70395888\/hannah-montana-20th-anniversary-special-release-date-news\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"the Disney+ special\" data-node-id=\"4.3\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\">the Disney+ special<\/a> that premieres on March 24, told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/features\/miley-cyrus-hannah-montana-anniversary-interview-1236690938\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/features\/miley-cyrus-hannah-montana-anniversary-interview-1236690938\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Variety\" data-node-id=\"4.5\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\"><em data-node-id=\"4.5.0\">Variety<\/em><\/a> that she took a piece of her godmother Dolly Parton\u2019s advice to manifest the show.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"5\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u201cI learned this terrible habit\u2014but I actually think it was good advice\u2014from Dolly,\u201d Cyrus began. \u201cShe told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a <em data-node-id=\"5.1\">Hannah Montana<\/em> 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<section data-embed=\"watch-next\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-16\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"7\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u201cI think even Disney sometimes forgets the connection between me and Hannah,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s not <em data-node-id=\"7.1\">just<\/em> a TV show. I see daily how important Hannah is to people. When I travel, people bring me \u2018Hannah\u2019 merch. They ask, \u2018Are you ever going to do another season?\u2019\u201d Cyrus sent Disney fan reactions as she started spreading the news, saying, \u201cI\u2019m telling you, this would be huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<section data-embed=\"recirculation\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-17\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Disney executive Charlie Andrews revealed Cyrus convinced it\u2014and the company got on board in December: \u201cShe willed it into existence,\u201d Andrews said. As they started working on the special in January, \u201cthe thing she was adamant about is that this is for the fans. That has gone into literally every decision she has made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"10\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Cyrus teased a few things fans can expect, including a new original song. She revealed she wasn\u2019t wearing a wig but dyed her own hair blonde and cut bangs. But one of the biggest pieces of news she shared was who would be making a cameo: <em data-node-id=\"10.1\">Hannah Montana <\/em>guest star and Cyrus\u2019s friend and fellow Disney alum Selena Gomez.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Alexandra Cooper, who Cyrus tapped to interview her in the special, arranged for Gomez to come and surprise Cyrus on set. \u201cI love Selena, but I didn\u2019t know how much our friendship meant to the fans,\u201d Cyrus admitted.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">She spoke more broadly about her hopes as people watch the special and why she felt ready to revisit Hannah: \u201cA lot of artists feel like to become the next version of themselves, they have to leave something behind,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I\u2019d rather be more like a gorgeous patchwork blanket.
