In early 2023, the Willis family shared that their patriarch had received a more specific diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).<\/p>\n \u201cAs his language started changing, it (seemed like it) was just a part of a stutter, it was just Bruce. Never in a million years would I think it would be a form of dementia for someone so young,” Heming Willis said in a 2024 interview with Town & Country<\/a>. “I say that FTD whispers, it doesn\u2019t shout. It\u2019s hard for me to say, \u2018This is where Bruce ended, and this is where his disease started to take over,'” she added of the gradual changes that became more noticeable over time.<\/p>\n Bruce’s condition has worsened over the past three years. In September 2025, Heming Willis shared that the family made the decision to move Bruce into a separate home.<\/p>\n “It was the hardest thing,” she told People magazine<\/a>. “We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs \u2026 The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing.”<\/p>\n According to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>, patients diagnosed with FTD have a life expectancy of seven to 13 years after symptoms begin.
