The project will combine live action and computer-generated imagery as the Chinese toy company looks to grow Labubu beyond collectibles into a global entertainment brand.<\/p>\n<p>Director Paul King, known for \u201cPaddington,\u201d \u201cPaddington 2\u201d and \u201cWonka,\u201d is attached to direct and produce. He will co-write the screenplay with Steven Levenson, whose credits include \u201cDear Evan Hansen.\u201d Labubu creator Kasing Lung will serve as an executive producer.<\/p>\n<p>The character first appeared in Lung\u2019s 2015 picture book series \u201cThe Monsters Trilogy\u201d and has since become a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/entertainment\/entertainment-news\/2025-cultural-moments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">viral sensation<\/a>, helping fuel rapid growth for Pop Mart. The company\u2019s shares have surged over the past year as demand for its designer toys has climbed worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Pop Mart has said it aims to build a franchise model similar to major entertainment companies, expanding its intellectual property into film, merchandise and themed experiences.
