The North Coast Repertory Theatre is presenting Tom Stoppard\u2019s absurdist masterpiece, \u201cRosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Directed by\u00a0Mel Resendez, tragicomedy opens Thursday, March 26, and runs through April 18\u00a0at the 5th & D Street Theater, 300 Fifth St., Eureka.<\/p>\n
The play reimagines Shakespeare\u2019s\u00a0\u201cHamlet\u201d from the perspective of two minor characters \u2014 the bewildered schoolmates of the Prince of Denmark. As the massive events of the royal tragedy swirl around them, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern attempt to lift their friend\u2019s mood, they find themselves trapped in a world they don\u2019t understand, debating philosophy and probability while stumbling toward a fate they cannot escape.<\/p>\n
The production offers both evening and matinee performances to accommodate all theater-goers. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the show starts at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are offered at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
Tickets are $20 and $25. \u201cPay What You Want\u201d tickets are available for performances on March 26 and April 16.<\/p>\n

Dance from the Academy of Irish Dance will perform Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, 636 F St., Eureka.<\/p>\n
This St. Patrick\u2019s Day celebration will feature an array of traditional Irish dances. Expect to see lively reels, intricate jigs and slip jigs and powerful treble reels. Dancers, ranging from 7 years of age to adults, will showcase their individual flair, each choosing their favorite tunes to \u201ckick up their heels.\u201d<\/p>\n
The academy\u2019s Company Dancers, a group with roots stretching back to the early 2000s, will also grace the audience with their expertise. Comprised primarily of competitive dancers, past and present members of the troupe have shared the stage with legendary musicians like Natalie MacMaster, Leahy, Dervish, the Chieftans, and a Celtic Christmas, as well as beloved local talent such as Good Company, Seabury Gould, Scatter the Mud, Evan Morden and Krissy Dodge.<\/p>\n
Prepare to be captivated by traditional set dances, performed in hard shoes to specific tunes, including the classic \u201cSt. Patrick\u2019s Day,\u201d which originated in Limerick, Ireland in the early 1800s. The third annual \u201cFlute Extravaganza\u201d will be performed during \u201cWine and Jazz\u201d Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, 636 F St., Eureka.<\/p>\n
Marla Joy and Blake Brown will present the lovely sound waves of the flute in a jazz duo.<\/p>\n
There will also be a small presentation by a flute septet playing chamber music from the Impressionist era as well as a piece with Celtic-like melodies. The septet includes flutists Julie Froblom, Nancy Streufert, Elizabeth Sousa, Leslie Roberts and Emily Janzen. The flute choir is a community group open to new members who love the flute and feel comfortable reading music.<\/p>\n

EXIT Theatre\u2019s fourth annual Short Play Festival will be held June 18 to 27. Performances will take place Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. All shows are at EXIT Theatre, 890 G Street, second floor, on the Plaza in Arcata.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s festival received more than 200 plays for consideration from local, national and international playwrights. The full-stage productions of the 12 chosen plays will feature local actors, directors and technicians.<\/p>\n
