Drew Barrymore in ‘E.T.’; Ryan Gosling on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’

Now here\u2019s something to phone home about: Drew Barrymore<\/a> just reprised one of her most iconic roles.<\/p>\n The actress dressed up as her E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/em><\/a> character Gertie nearly 45 years after the film\u2019s release as part of an interview with Project Hail Mary<\/em><\/a> star Ryan Gosling<\/a> on Thursday\u2019s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n Barrymore donned Gertie\u2019s signature hairstyle while playing a game of \u201cFast Five\u201d with Gosling and his alien costar from Project Hail Mary<\/em>, Rocky. During the segment, Rocky acknowledged that Barrymore also has a longtime alien bestie of her very own before showing a clip from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 sci-fi classic.<\/p>\n Barrymore as Gertie As the clip was broadcast onscreen behind them, Barrymore scuttled off the studio couch to grab a Gertie wig and place it on her head. \u201cWhat is happening!?\u201d Gosling shouted as he watched the transformation unfold.<\/p>\n Upon seeing Barrymore\u2019s new look, he added, \u201cNo way! Is this really happening!?\u201d<\/p>\n Barrymore took a moment to adjust the wig before proceeding. \u201cIt turned into more of Cindy Brady than Gertie,\u201d the host admitted, \u201cbut we get the gist.\u201d<\/p>\n Gosling reacts to Barrymore’s wig To call Gosling surprised would be an understatement. The actor put his hands to his face and did a genuine double take before confessing, \u201cThis is so surreal!”<\/p>\n Barrymore then asked Rocky to ask his next question as she and Gosling burst into laughter over the reveal. She later reunited with costars Thomas, Dee Wallace, and Robert McNaughton<\/a> on her talk show in 2022 to commemorate the film\u2019s 40th anniversary.<\/p>\n “I really loved him in such a profound way,” Barrymore said of her admiration for the fictional alien. “I would go and take lunch to him.”<\/p>\n<\/div>
