We\u2019ve reached the halfway point of House of the Dragon<\/a><\/em>. The Game of Thrones<\/a><\/em> spinoff, which returns for Season 3 this year<\/a>, will indeed end with Season 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO<\/a> and HBO Max<\/a> content, confirmed the four-season intention in a new interview with Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, that is the idea,\u201d he said. \u201cThe idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.\u201d<\/p>\n Ryan Condal<\/a>, the showrunner and co-creator of House of the Dragon<\/em>, told Deadline<\/a> in August 2024 he envisioned a four-season run for the fantasy series.<\/p>\n Bloys also said that he\u2019s \u201cthrilled\u201d by the creative decisions behind the forthcoming Season 3. \u201c[By the way], I\u2019ve been thrilled by all three seasons,\u201d he added, pointing out the House of the Dragon<\/em>\u2019s high Rotten Tomatoes scores. \u201cThis has been a very successful show for us. So, again, I will say I\u2019m thrilled with what Ryan has done. He\u2019s been a great collaborator with us.\u201d<\/p>\n Ollie Upton\/HBO<\/p>\n<\/div>\n But Bloys couldn\u2019t say whether Season 4 would be supersized. \u201cRyan is working, like any show like this; he is finishing [post-production] on Season 3 and working with the writers on what Season 4 looks like,\u201d the exec explained. \u201cI don\u2019t know where he\u2019s landed on the episode count yet.\u201d<\/p>\n But Condal is working on House of the Dragon<\/em> with less input from George R.R. Martin<\/a>, his fellow co-creator, who wrote the Fire & Blood<\/em> and A Song of Ice and Fire<\/em> novels on which the TV series is based.<\/p>\n In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em>, Martin said he and Condal had an \u201cabysmal\u201d relationship<\/a> and claimed Condal \u201cbasically stopped listening\u201d to him in Season 2.<\/p>\n And THR<\/em> reported that HBO asked Martin to step back from House of the Dragon<\/em> after a contentious Zoom call between him, Condal, and executives regarding Season 3 plans. But the outlet also reported Martin was brought back aboard a few months later.<\/p>\n
