The heir to the throne, 43, has addressed his role as the future supreme governor of the Church of England amid questions about his commitment to the Christian faith.<\/p>\n<p>Prince William, who was confirmed at 14-years-old, disclosed that he had a \u201cquiet\u201d personal faith and intends to establish \u201ca strong and meaningful bond with the Church and its leadership,\u201d a source close to him told The Sunday Times.<\/p>\n<p>The Prince\u2019s position on religion differs from that of his father, <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/royal-family\/2025\/10\/22\/king-queen-arrive-rome-visit-pope\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">King Charles<\/a>, and his late grandmother, <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2022\/09\/19\/britain-still-guided-christian-values-queen-elizabeth-cherished\/?msockid=289d3386e12363fe21af24a2e0c762c1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth II<\/a>. Both of whom had taken great <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/10\/23\/king-charles-understands-essential-christian-function\/?msockid=289d3386e12363fe21af24a2e0c762c1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comfort from their faith<\/a> and frequent church attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The source close to William said: \u201cHis feeling is, I might not be at church every day, but I believe in it, I want to support it, and this is an important aspect of my role and the next role, and I will take it very seriously, in my own way.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"u-heading-size-medium u-heading-style-normal\">\u2018Drawing of a line in the sand\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the Prince attending the installation of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, on Wednesday, the source continued: \u201cThis week is an opportunity to be very clear in people\u2019s minds, when he walks into Canterbury Cathedral, of where he stands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor him, it is a drawing of a line in the sand of where he\u2019s at, and it\u2019s really important that [the question over his commitment to the Church] is cleared up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prince William\u2019s outlook contrasts with King Charles, who has championed a lifelong message of \u201cinterfaith\u201d unity and harmony, and who the Archbishop recently praised as having a \u201cdeep Christian faith\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"u-heading-size-medium u-heading-style-normal\">\u2018Quieter than people expect\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>An aide to William told The Sunday Times: \u201cThe Prince of Wales\u2019s commitment to the Church of England is sometimes quieter than people expect, and for that reason it is not always fully understood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who know him well recognise that his connection to the Church, and to the sense of duty that comes with it, runs deep and is grounded in something personal and sincere. Faith, service and responsibility are themes that have long shaped the role he will inherit, and they will be things he approaches in his own thoughtful way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when institutions can be seen simply through a social or cultural lens, he understands that the Church\u2019s role goes beyond this.
