John Legend Coming To The VETS In Providence, Rhode Island<\/span><\/p>\n Photo Credit: Katie Zimmerman<\/p><\/div>\n For a place like The Vets, that kind of show just fits.<\/p>\n We had to keep it local, so\u00a0when I asked what he\u2019s looking forward to eating while he\u2019s here, he already had a plan.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019m coming to Providence, I feel like I need to get Italian,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Italian American community is very strong there, so that feels like the right move.\u201d<\/p>\n Federal Hill, you\u2019ve been warned.<\/p>\n I took a shot and asked him something a little more personal, dad to dad.<\/p>\n As a new father, I wanted to know how he balances everything at such a high level while still being present at home.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, it\u2019s not always easy,\u201d Legend said. \u201cWe\u2019re very fortunate to have help and people that can step in when we\u2019re out of town, but I really make my family a priority when it comes to scheduling. Anybody on my team will tell you, I often say, \u2018No, I need to do this with my son or my daughter. I can\u2019t do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Then he said something that really stuck with me.<\/p>\n \u201cYou never get those moments back with your kids, so you\u2019ve got to try to get as many of them as you can, especially in those early years,” he said.<\/p>\n I also had to throw him a curveball: what does John Legend listen to when he\u2019s working out?<\/p>\n Turns out, not much music at all.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t really listen to a lot of music when I\u2019m working out,\u201d he said. \u201cI usually have the TV on and we\u2019re watching the morning shows on ESPN, watching them argue about sports, and me and my trainer just yell at the TV.\u201d<\/p>\n Didn\u2019t see that one coming.<\/p>\n We couldn\u2019t end things without getting into one of the most random viral moments out there right now.<\/p>\n Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, were spotted at a rally tied to the PetSmart debate \u2013 yes, the one asking if it\u2019s \u201cpet smart\u201d or \u201ca mart for pets.\u201d<\/p>\n So I had to ask.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m hearing that the company is planting their flag with ‘pet smart.’ That\u2019s what they\u2019re going with,\u201d Legend said. \u201cI think the song and the rally encouraged them to make a clear decision and make that clear to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n As for how they ended up there in the first place?<\/p>\n \u201cChrissy found it on Instagram, and it\u2019s exactly her type of humor,\u201d he said. \u201cShe saw they were doing a rally like 15 minutes from our house and said, \u2018We\u2019ve got to go.\u2019 Then we saw the guy (Ben Lapidus<\/a>) had actually DM\u2019d her asking if she could come and be part of it, and we were like, \u2018Alright, let\u2019s do it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n If you want to see John Legend like you never have before\u00a0\u2013 just him, a piano, and the stories behind the music \u2013 this is the show.<\/p>\n An Evening With John Legend: A Night of Songs and Stories hits The Vets in Providence on Sunday, April 26.
