William Shatner<\/a> just celebrated his 95th birthday \u2014 and the Star Trek<\/a><\/em> icon issued a bold PSA as he marked the milestone.<\/p>\n On March 17, days before his birthday, the actor who played Captain Kirk starred in a new video on behalf of PETA<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI just want to say that PETA is terrific,\u201d Shatner said in the clip. \u201cThe animals that took millions of years, in some cases, billions of years, to evolve and be part of the environment, they\u2019re dying because of man.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cIt is really bad. It\u2019s tragic. This beautiful planet that is so gorgeous and so interconnected, we\u2019re killing it. And we have a chance to stop that. We have the science to stop it, and we must clean up our act now before it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n The end of the video featured text that read, \u201cPlease go vegan. Every animal is someone.\u201d<\/p>\n On March 22, Shatner\u2019s actual birthday, he posted a cheeky update on Instagram<\/a> with two photos taken by his daughter, Lizabeth Shatner. (He also has two other daughters, Melanie and Leslie, with his first wife, Gloria Rand.) The first shot showed him smiling near a body of water, while the second snap featured him in the same setting, but smoking a cigar.<\/p>\n \u201cAt 95, I\u2019m still smokin\u2019!<\/p>\n \ufffd\ufffd<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n ,\u201d he quipped in the caption. \u201cI\u2019ve learned two things: Never waste a good cigar.
