It\u2019s one of the more \u201cwell duh\u201d <\/span>headlines<\/span><\/a> I\u2019ve seen in recent memory: \u201c<\/span>Jessica Biel<\/b> \u2018Not Happy\u2019 About <\/span>Justin Timberlake<\/b>\u2018s DWI Arrest Video.\u201d No one\u2019s going to be pleased that the footage of an already-infamous moment in their husband\u2019s life (I will never forget \u201cthis is going to ruin the tour.\u201d \u201cWhat tour?\u201d \u201cThe world tour\u201d) is hitting the internet. But it\u2019s the second half of <\/span>People<\/span><\/i>\u2019s \u201cExclusive\u201d headline that made me pause: Biel \u201cRemains \u2018Supportive\u2019 of the Singer.\u201d Hopefully, in most relationships, that\u2019s a bit of a no-brainer\u2014ideally, you support your partner through thick and thin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a reason they pushed back on the footage being released,\u201d a \u201csource close to Biel\u201d told the magazine. Despite this intriguing phrasing, the reason is the obvious one: The actress apparently finds the video of her drunk husband \u201cstressful and would prefer to move past it. It obviously doesn\u2019t portray him in the best light.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Another no-brainer: He\u2019s visibly drunk and comments that the sobriety tests he\u2019s given are \u201chard.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FWIW, I actually do agree with Timberlake\u2019s lawyer\u2019s <\/span>argument<\/span><\/a> that releasing the video is a privacy violation; there\u2019s no public interest in seeing detailed evidence of a celebrity drunk behind the wheel. However, the arrest video was released on Friday, the ideal time slot for news that celebrities want to be buried, and the decision to draw further attention to it somewhat aggressively contradicts Biel\u2019s wish \u201cto move past it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have no way of knowing what \u201ca source close to\u201d [someone] means here. It\u2019s been speculated in the past that that phrasing can literally mean the person in question; it can also be someone in their inner circle (a good friend, a publicist, etc.); it can even be someone less obviously close but who would have first-hand knowledge of what they\u2019re saying. That this anonymous but \u201cexclusive\u201d tidbit was given to People is also a tell. The magazine is no TMZ (which is almost always right, usually about the darker stories of celebrity gossip), but it is a source known to be friendly to celebrities, one they can trust.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So this almost certainly wasn\u2019t an accident. Biel\u2019s camp wants <\/span>us to know that she\u2019s \u201c<\/span>not afraid to express [to Timberlake] when she\u2019s disappointed\u201d and that this is certainly one of those times\u2014but to what end, it\u2019s hard to say. Yet. <\/span><\/p>\n

But with this in mind\u2014plus a DeuxMoi report<\/a> three months ago noting that, behind the scenes, \u201crecent dynamics between the couple have felt more emotionally charged than usual\u201d\u2014I\u2019ll just say none of this is<\/span> helping the divorce rumors the couple have faced basically since they got married nearly 15 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
