Ryan Gosling resurrected the “slutty little glasses” trend from 2025 in 2026’s Project Hail Mary<\/em>, and this PEOPLE writer is grateful<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n Gosling stars in the sci-fi movie based on Andy Weir’s 2021 science fiction novel of the same name<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The actor plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who gets tapped for a space mission to save planet Earth<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Project Hail Mary <\/em>has blessed audiences with many things: Ryan Gosling<\/a> in a comedic role, a sci-fi movie that doesn’t spark an existential crisis, the surprising realization that we can feel maternal toward a pile of rocks, to name a few.<\/p>\n But I could argue that its biggest gift has been bringing us 2026’s answer to the Slutty Little Glasses, the phenomenon that was introduced by PEOPLE’s very own 2025 Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey<\/a>\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n Bailey, 37, made headlines for sporting a pair of tiny spectacles in the Jurassic Park\u00a0<\/em>reboot<\/a> that only a man as beautiful as he could make look positively tantalizing. Fans all over the world went feral for what the internet promptly dubbed as “slutty little glasses”<\/a> \u2014 and it’s easy to see why.<\/p>\n The actor later stepped out in a version of what was quickly becoming his signature style at the London premiere of\u00a0Wicked: For Good,<\/em>\u00a0where he rocked a pair of brown-tinted shades. But alas, that was in November, and audiences (read: me) were growing restless for a new iteration of Slutty Little Glasses.<\/p>\n Enter: Gosling.<\/p>\n Ryan Gosling in ‘Project Hail Mary.’ In Project Hail Mary<\/em> (which is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 science fiction novel of the same name), the 45-year-old actor plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who gets tapped for a space mission to save planet Earth. The two astronauts meant to join him on the mission end up passing away on the journey, leaving Grace on his own. He eventually meets another life form, a rock that he creatively names “Rocky,” though the two can only communicate through walls as their respective atmospheres are deadly to each other.<\/p>\n As a result, Gosling spends the majority of the movie either entirely alone, rifling through papers trying to solve a nearly impossible riddle, or talking to a rock. It was wise for filmmakers to make the actor look hotter than usual to make up for his lack of castmates, though I can’t be certain this was intentional.<\/p>\n Ryan Gosling in ‘Project Hail Mary.’ Seemingly still ripped from his stint as the beefed-up Ken in Barbie <\/em>(or maybe he just always looks like that?), Gosling’s arm muscles are almost distracting, even when hidden beneath the teacher-y cardigans the costume department put him in. Top it all off with a pair of square, gold-rimmed glasses that he frequently wears hanging off of his face when concentrating super hard on space math, Gosling gives Bailey a run for his money.<\/p>\n
