Gossip blogger Perez Hilton<\/a> is dishing on the \u201ccrazy, crazy, crazy saga\u201d of how he ended up in the hospital for 21 days \u2014 and he hopes it serves as a cautionary tale.<\/p>\n In an emotional You Tube video, the 48-year-old personality (real name: Mario Lavandeira Jr.) reveals that it all started when he had the flu for a week. Although he took his prescribed medication, he never paired it with food as instructed, which can be hard on the digestive system.<\/p>\n \u201cMy stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days,\u201d he told his followers, \u201cand it was the worst and best thing that\u2019s ever happened to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Unbeknownst to Hilton, he had developed an ulcer, which progressed to a perforation in his stomach, and then sepsis, a condition in which the body responds to extreme infection.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople die of sepsis,\u201d cried the father of three.<\/p>\n When he couldn\u2019t walk one morning, he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first few days were a lot of pain and constant tests\u201d \u2014 X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds \u2014 he explained, \u201cbecause they couldn\u2019t find location of perforation. So, that was scary. There\u2019s this hole inside of me. Where is it?\u201d<\/p>\n Laparoscopic surgery revealed \u201cso much infection\u201d around his internal organs, which another procedure attempted to drain.<\/p>\n But the sepsis \u201ckept working,\u201d Hilton continued, \u201cany my body kept falling apart.\u201d His heart \u201cgot out of control\u201d and then, he developed another infection while still in the hospital.<\/p>\n By this point, his only nutrients had been though an IV. When he was finally able to eat food again after two weeks, \u201cthat was a whole other process, hard on the body and humiliating,\u201d admitted Hilton, as he choked up. Some nights, \u201cI had a lot of accidents.\u201d But there was one nurse, Bella, who he says was \u201cso kind and patient and helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n The last week in the hospital was \u201chell\u201d working to get better before he could be released: “I was like, I just want to go home. I just want to be with my babies.”<\/p>\n While he\u2019s now finally back home, \u201cI\u2019m not a hundred percent,\u201d Hilton told his followers. No more. I\u2019m gonna have dinner with my kids and my mom every night from now on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Hilton credits his \u201crockstar\u201d mother and \u201cangel\u201d sister for helping him get through the health scare \u2014 but also, the emotional healing they brought him. His mother spent all 21 days in the hospital, and during that time, \u201cwe had some of the most powerful healing conversations of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
