Treatment was intense and painful, including multiple medical tests, then laparoscopic surgery to \u201cflip around all of my organs\u201d to find the hole, then \u201cwashing out the infection.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hilton also had fluid in his lungs drained and another procedure to remove more pus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sepsis just kept working a,nd my body kept falling apart,\u201d he explained, adding he developed a heart issue and was given medication for that.<\/p>\n
Once the initial issues were rectified, the nightmare was still far from over, as Hilton developed another infection that had to be rigorously treated. Aside from that, the \u201cTMI\u201d author had \u201chumiliating\u201d accidents after the feeding tube was removed and he resumed eating.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was just such a slow process,\u201d said the single father of three. \u201cI mean, two weeks of just sickness and then another week of getting better before I was released. That last week was hell.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still recovering but now on the mend, the Belen Jesuit Preparatory grad said one bright spot from the experience was a newfound spirituality and desire to go to church. This summer, he\u2019ll head back home to Miami for a family trip for further \u201chealing.\u201d<\/p>\n
