The name was selected through a statewide vote, with <em>Sound Shift<\/em> emerging as the top choice among four contenders.<\/p>\n<p>The name <em>Sound Shift<\/em> reflects the channel\u2019s day-to-night musical flow, featuring classical compositions in the morning and transitioning into jazz, indie and alternative music in the evening. Designed to complement listeners\u2019 daily rhythms, <em>Sound Shift<\/em> will offer a seamless listening experience across broadcast and digital platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The naming process invited public participation, highlighting SC Public Radio\u2019s emphasis on community engagement. Listeners voted from Oct. 29 through Dec. 1, 2025, ultimately choosing <em>Sound Shift<\/em> from several proposed options.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sound Shift<\/em> is part of SC Public Radio\u2019s continued expansion into <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.southcarolinapublicradio.org\/hd-radio\" target=\"_blank\">HD radio subchannels<\/a>, which allow for specialized programming alongside traditional analog broadcasts. The network is upgrading transmitters, streaming infrastructure and licensing to support the new channel, providing improved audio quality, greater accessibility and a stronger statewide network.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.southcarolinapublicradio.org\/hd\/music\" target=\"_blank\">new music service<\/a> will be available statewide on the HD2 subchannel for listeners with HD radio receivers.
