She was 54.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Schilling\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mel_schilling1\/p\/DWQ85B0iDFQ\/\">Instagram<\/a> page following her passing, Brisbane described how she \u201cnailed\u201d her role as a mom to their daughter <strong>Maddie<\/strong>, 11,<strong> <\/strong>while also fulfilling her TV duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo most of you, she was Mel Schilling\u2014matriarch of MAFS and queen of reality TV,\u201d he wrote. \u201cTo Maddie and me, she was our wee Melsie: an incredible mum, role model, and soulmate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brisbane also offered insight into his bittersweet farewell with Schilling\u2014who hosted the Australian version of the reality series as well\u2014after she tackled her health battle with \u201ccourage, grace, compassion and empathy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn her final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away her ability to speak, she ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life,\u201d he shared. \u201cIt took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly.
