King Charles decided to follow in the footsteps of his mother,
\nQueen Elizabeth II, one more time but this time, it was almost
\nimpossible to do.<\/p>\n

The King, along with Queen Camilla, decided to recreate one of
\nthe late Queen\u2019s most famous moments.<\/p>\n

Back in 2021, during a visit to the Eden Project in Cornwall,
\nQueen Elizabeth II insisted on cutting a giant cake with a sword.
\nAs King Charles and Queen Camilla made their own visit, they
\ndecided to do exactly the same thing but the cake this time almost
\nwon the battle.<\/p>\n

With The King and Queen both in full action mode, they attempted
\nto slice through a stunning cake that was the centrepiece of the
\nfirst Big Lunch of 2026. The Big Lunch, of which Queen Camilla is
\npatron, is held every year to encourage people to share food and
\ntime with others in their local community.<\/p>\n

This royal launch brought together groups from around Cornwall
\nfor a celebration. But the almost missed out on a slice of cake as
\nThe King and Queen battled to cut the treat up for them.<\/p>\n

Queen Camilla is a notoriously expert cake cutter and has sliced
\nup many sweet treats presented to her with a flourish. She had also
\nwitnessed the famous cake cutting of Queen Elizabeth at the Eden
\nProject as she\u2019d attended the Big Lunch in 2021 at which the
\nincident took place, alongside the now Princess of Wales.<\/p>\n

The King and Queen eventually managed to complete the initial
\nslicing of the cake, helped by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall,
\nColonel Sir Edward Bolitho.<\/p>\n

The Big Lunch visit also celebrated another milestone for the
\nEden Project. It turns 25 this year and King Charles and Queen
\nCamilla enjoyed a visit to some of its star attractions to mark the
\nanniversary.<\/p>\n

Part of the celebrations includes the brand new Giant Marble
\nRuns. There are eight new marble runs, covering over 100 metres,
\nand they\u2019ve been designed to encourage people to play in nature.
\nSome of the marbles have been created from trees that were knocked
\ndown in the storms that hit Cornwall earlier this year.<\/p>\n

There were special marbles for the royal visitors, made from a
\nfelled ash, and local school children were on hand to help with the
\ngame. The design is also focused on delivering an charitable aim of
\nthe Eden Project \u2013 nature recovery.<\/p>\n

There was also a chance to meet helpers, volunteers and funders
\ninvolved in this year\u2019s Big Lunch. The 2026 weekend is on June 5-8
\nand is combining forces with the Big Help Out, the initiative
\nstarted in 2023 to encourage people to volunteer in their local
\ncommunities. It was first held to mark the Coronation of King
\nCharles and Queen Camilla.<\/p>\n

The double event this year is called the Big Do!<\/a> Peter Stewart, Eden Project Director
\nEmeritus and responsible for the Big Lunch, said \u201dit was an
\nhonour to share the impact of Eden\u2019s work over the past quarter
\ncentury with them and to look ahead to the charity\u2019s future with
\nthe launch of The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out, which we hope
\nwill encourage the whole nation to get in the party spirit by
\ntaking action and making a positive difference where they live this
\nyear.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Queen Camilla has been patron of the Big Lunch since 2013 and
\noften takes part in the community celebrations around the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n

As the latest approaches, we can expect a lot more cake cutting
\nas she leads celebrations.<\/p>\n
