Spencer Krug has been enjoying a fun little zeitgeist moment<\/a> thanks to Heated Rivalry<\/em>‘s prominent use<\/a> of Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe In Anything.” But now it’s back to new music. Krug is back today with news of a new album, Same Fangs<\/em>. It’s coming in May via his own Pronounced Kroog label, and lead single “Timebomb” is out now.<\/p>\n Those who heard Krug’s solo piano reworking<\/a> of “I’ll Believe In Anything,” or who have listened to his work as Moonface, may not be surprised to learn that “Timebomb” is a piano ballad with the “maudlin” knob turned all the way up. There’s distortion on the keys, and Krug’s distinctive bellows are complemented by vocals from duet partner Elbow Kiss<\/a>. There are lots of evocative lyrics here about music’s power (and the way that power can come and go with time), including this one: “Mirror me and I will mirror you \/ what a pair of motherfuckers in a feedback loop.”<\/p>\n Per Krug, “Timebomb is a song about a song about a band on tour, or rather, about the failed revision of that song, upon sadly realizing that its original message no longer rings true. This is me lyrically folding myself into the murky layers of self-made lore.” Watch the video below.<\/p>\n
