Eric Benet<\/a> is calling out celebrity behavior in real time, zeroing in on what he sees as a lack of respect for the very people who made that fame possible.<\/p>\n

In a March 24 Instagram Reel<\/a>, the R&B singer didn\u2019t mince words about public figures who brush off supporters in everyday encounters. \u201cOne of my biggest pet peeves\u2026 are those public figures or celebrities who lack the grace to just take a picture with your fan,\u201d Benet said, adding that even a small acknowledgment can go a long way. \u201cOr just say hello. Or just acknowledge them if they see you on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benet framed the issue as bigger than a quick interaction, pointing to the relationship between artists and their audience. \u201cIf you are so inconvenienced by somebody acknowledging you\u2026 somebody who adores you, somebody who has patronized your business,\u201d he said, before criticizing those who dismiss fans outright. \u201cI can\u2019t stand y\u2019all\u2026 that shame people who adore you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments arrive as conversations around celebrity accessibility and accountability continue to pick up online. A recent situation involving singer Chappell Roan<\/a> has added fuel to that discussion. <\/p>\n

Catherine Harding, who is married to Brazilian soccer player Jorginho, shared her account of a hotel encounter in S\u00e3o Paulo involving her 11-year-old daughter.<\/a> According to Harding, her daughter briefly tried to confirm Roan\u2019s presence but did not approach or interact.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn\u2019t have her phone, she didn\u2019t try to take a picture\u2026 she literally didn\u2019t do anything,\u201d Harding said in a March 22 Instagram video. <\/p>\n

She alleged that a man believed to be associated with Roan approached them in a \u201cvery aggressive tone,\u201d accusing the child of being disrespectful and threatening to escalate the situation.<\/p>\n

Roan later addressed the incident, denying any involvement. \u201cI did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not,\u201d she wrote, adding that she \u201cdidn\u2019t even see a woman and a child.\u201d She also acknowledged the situation shouldn\u2019t have escalated, noting it was \u201cunfair for security to just assume someone doesn\u2019t have good intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Benet did not name anyone in his video, his broader point centered on the responsibility that comes with visibility. \u201cThey\u2019ve allowed you to have this global access. They\u2019ve allowed you to have this wealth,\u201d he said, emphasizing the role fans play in an artist\u2019s success. \u201cLess than half of a percent of the world is able to experience [that].\u201d<\/p>\n

He closed with a reminder of how small those fan interactions really are in the grand scheme. \u201cAll they want is for you to just see them for two seconds,\u201d Benet said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
