Eliza Roberts, wife of Markle’s former co-star Eric Roberts, recently told the Daily Mail that the royal family had reservations about the Duchess of Sussex’s role, particularly given its intimate nature. The royal family has long maintained a conservative public image, and Markle was the first former actress to join the institution.<\/p>\n
‘It’s tricky because of the monarchy. Her role in Suits was very sultry. Her making love with another man, that was just \u2014 they’ve never seen anything like that,’ Roberts said.<\/p>\n
Despite any reservations the royal family may have held, Roberts praised Markle for her work ethic and the sacrifice she made in stepping away from her career. ‘She worked so hard to get there. That was just too much. Women don’t give up their jobs for a marriage anymore. I understand the intention, and she thought she’d be satisfied with doing good works in the world. But she needs to be acting. She is a young woman who needs to be acting. Meghan is a star. From the second you see her, she just has star quality. It doesn’t matter. It was always going to happen,’ Roberts said.<\/p>\n
Roberts also reflected on how unusual Markle’s sacrifice was by modern standards, noting that few women in today’s industry would make the same choice. She expressed confidence that a return to the screen was not a matter of if, but when. ‘It is time. And Meghan needs to come back to work.
