Sarah Ferguson has stayed so elusive – effectively becoming “the most famous missing person in the UK” – because she is an extremely loyal<\/a> friend, a confidante has suggested.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It is understood at least two individuals have come forward to assist the former Duchess of York, 66, following her departure from Royal Lodge in Windsor, Berkshire, last month. Whilst Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s activities – and location – have been extensively documented, mystery surrounds what became of Ms Ferguson.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Friends have reportedly stood by the author, and preserved her privacy in doing so. One remarked: “She is a very loyal friend. She never forgets a birthday, always sends a present. Nothing flash, just kind and sweet and thoughtful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “The only people who don’t like her are the ones who haven’t really met her. She is generous to a fault – and it is a fault. She would give you her last fiver, which is probably why she’s in this mess in the first place.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Ms Ferguson departed Royal Lodge at the same time as her former husband and the pair – once characterised as the “happiest divorced couple in the world” – have finally gone their separate ways. Mr Mountbatten-Windsor remains ensconced at Sandringham following his arrest and subsequent release without charge in February, but Ms Ferguson has stayed so effectively concealed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Sarah Vine, a columnist for the Daily Mail, writes: “She is, when you think about it, the most famous missing person in the UK. And yet she hasn’t been photographed once, despite the best efforts of His Majesty’s Press. She wasn’t even spotted during her final flight from Royal Lodge. Those players on Celebrity Hunted could certainly learn a thing or two from her.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “What’s her secret? Simple: good mates. Someone as recognisable as Fergie doesn’t remain that well-hidden without some serious back-up, funds and transport – and the generosity of friends.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Her daughters, Princess Eugenie<\/a> and Princess Beatrice<\/a>, have also demonstrated loyalty to the media personality, it has been reported. Nevertheless, it is understood Princess Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank “won’t allow” Fergie to move in with them. This has reportedly placed additional pressure on Eugenie, who is said to be experiencing “a personal crisis” amid the family dynamics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Supporting the three resilient women to stay strong, Ms Vine added: “Whatever else Sarah Ferguson may be, there is no doubt that she has always been a survivor, the kind of woman who picks herself up, dusts herself down and gets back on the horse.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
