Celebrating excellence<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This Thursday, the 8th Annual Black Business Awards Recognition & Exhibition<\/strong> celebrates Madison\u2019s Black-owned businesses. The event is the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce\u2019s largest fundraiser. Attendees can view the Official Black Wall Street Exhibit, a traveling exhibit from the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum, and shop Black businesses at a local marketplace. The Era\u2019s Ball, a black tie event, includes dinner and dancing at the Monona Terrace Convention Center, 1 John Nolen Drive. Tickets start at $175, and patrons can sponsor a ticket for a business owner.<\/p>\n

Endurance comedy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Known for unscripted movie spoofs, character-based improv and playful experimentation, Atlas Improv Co. celebrates 22 years of improvised comedy this weekend in Madison. The annual free Endurance Improv Festival<\/strong> starts Thursday at 7 p.m. and continues Friday with Theatresports (7 p.m) and long-form improv (8:30 p.m.). Saturday is the real marathon \u2014 from noon until 2 a.m., drop in for shows every half hour at 609 E. Washington Ave. Want to play? There\u2019s an improv workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday focused on how to play a convincing villain. For that only, registration is required and the suggested donation is $20.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mass extraordinary<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A week before Easter, the Madison Bach Musicians present J.S. Bach\u2019s \u201ccathedral in sound\u201d \u2014 the Mass in B Minor<\/strong> \u2014 played by period instruments, including Baroque winds and chamber organ. Andrew Megill from Northwestern University leads the orchestra and 14-member vocal ensemble at the Hamel Music Center, 740 University Ave., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. with a lecture about the instruments 45 minutes before show time. The Sunday performance will be livestreamed (available through April 12). Tickets cost $10-$43.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Raiders march<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Composer John Williams said \u201cthere was nothing I had to take too seriously musically\u201d when creating the music for the \u201cIndiana Jones\u201d franchise, resulting in a score that feels as dramatic as its film source. Feel the power of the movie soundtrack at \u201cIndiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark\u2122 Live in Concert<\/strong>,\u201d a screening of the movie with the score played by the Madison Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Kyle Knox. Screening takes place in Overture Hall, 201 State St. Tickets cost $34-$114.<\/p>\n
