A new public space is in the works for downtown Rochester, known as Main Street Commons, located at 170-172 East Main Street.<\/p>\n
More than $1.5 million will help to finance the project, which will transform a currently vacant commercial building into an outdoor public space for dining and entertainment.<\/p>\n
The Rochester City Council approved legislation Tuesday night approving the issuance of bonds and contracting for construction at the site.<\/p>\n
According to the city, the project will “create a new outdoor public space as a catalyst to facilitate the renovation of the Main Street corridor and to support the development of the adjacent private properties into mixed-use destinations. The Commons will provide space for outdoor dining and small-scale entertainment while simultaneously providing enhanced pedestrian circulation within the district.”<\/p>\n
The funding came from a grant as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
